Malaria advice in The Gambia

Does anyone know if you are required to take malaria medication when visiting The Gambia and Senegal. I am confused by conflicting advice from various guide books and web sites

We've visited The Gambia and Senegal five times in total, although not as a cruise stop. We've taken anti-malaria precautions each time, but I would strongly recommend you visit your GP surgery and take their advice. In our practice, we fill out a form detailing the trip we're taking, and the Practice Nurse will investigate the latest health recommendations for us.
