092306 Posted October 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2013 Leaving this Thursday on the Splendor and received a call today from Carnival letting us know they had selected us for a fabulous upgrade from our lido deck balcony to a spa suite for $800 (3 in cabin, one of whom is 3). I was excited to get the call (first one) but politely declined. I'm sure it's a great cabin, but thought the $800 could be better spent elsewhere. jwlnroe Posted October 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2013 good choice.. $800 is a lot of money.. could be used for lots of other things or a deposit on another cruise. :) Have a fun trip!! I still have a little over 3 months to wait until my cruise day comes LOL
buddybean11 Posted October 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2013 Sailed on the Paradise last Monday. Got a call Wednesday before offering us an upgrade from Rivera Oceanview to Grand Suite for $500 more (4 in cabin). As you did politely declined. Daughter got married Saturday before we left and I still had a few wedding bills to pay. Now if they had offered it to us for the $225 OBC we had I would have jumped on it. Canadian_J Posted October 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2013 Yeah $800 isn't a stellar deal considering you already had a Lido balcony. It's easy to think it's a good deal and forget you already have a high category! We almost always stay on Lido/Panorama and love it, so enjoy :D
Rare Scrapnana Posted October 22, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2013 $100 a night extra is more than I would spend for three people.
spyingeyes Posted October 22, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2013 I've never gotten an upgrade call but it seems like most of the recent offers I've seen posted are ridiculously overpriced.
golfadj Posted October 22, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2013 Love that you were "selected" i would have said no also.
cruiseonthebrain Posted October 22, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2013 I would probably have said yes and then spent more time in the spa and less money on excursions and shopping. It's all about your own priorities. I'm sure you will have a great cabin and a great time!!!
pungo3 Posted October 22, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2013 It sounds like you made the right choice. I hope your cruise is fabulous!:D
RWolver672 Posted October 22, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 22, 2013 In a lot of cases with their upsell calls, the cost is the same as what you would have paid had you booked that cabin originally. What they're hoping is that you think it's a deal because you already have your original cabin paid for and it's only going to cost you $800. Best bet is to see what the suite or upsell would cost you to begin with.

That's a huge cost for an upsell. You made a very wise choice IMHO.
Maraprince Posted October 22, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 22, 2013 For $800, one of you could have booked and paid for a new sailing! MARAPRINCE
