best snorkeling in Cozumel?

We will be on Carnival's Elation cruise in February. Have a one day stop in Cozumel. We love to snorkel. Is there a snorkel expedition 'package' you would recommend? Or a particular place to go and snorkel on your own? There are four of us in our 50s, non-drinkers. Love to see beautiful fish and coral!

We used Eagle Ray for a snorkel tour a couple of years ago and were very happy.

If you want to snorkel from the shore you have a few choices -- Chankanaab has very nice snorkeling plus a separate beach area, plus dolphin shows and lots more and charges about $20 per adult for admisission.

The Money Bar has great snorkeling from the shore, good facilities, good food/drinks/service and charges no admission. No beach (you enter the water via steps) but there is a sandy area for sunning and relaxing.

Both Chank and MB are about a $10+tip cab ride from the peirs. Good luck! :)

If you can hire a guide/tour to take you to the east side of the island and snorkel the reef there......now that's snorkeling! You're in about 20-30 ft water and the reef comes all the way to the surface in areas. It's like "buildings" of reef. We snorkeled out from the beach which was a loooooong swim, but if you can find a company that would take you there, that's the place to go!! As we snorkeled around the top side, we watched numerous divers swimming all throughout the coral pillars below. It was cool.

Where is money bar located? How much are food and drinks there (apx?)

Money Bar is on the west side of the island, not as far away from downtown and the port areas as most of the major/popular beach clubs(Paradise, Mr. Sanchos, etc.). Taxi there will cost about $9-10+tip for up to 4 in the cab.

You may be able to see their menu at their web site. As I recall food and drinks there are priced comparable to most other beach bars -- beers are about $4-5 each unless you buy a bucket, margaritas are about the same, and umbrella drinks (pina colada, etc.) are about $7.

Good luck! :)

We hung out at the Money Bar last month most of our day. Rotated snorkeling with drinking and eating. Either had 4 or 6 beers for both of us. Ordered a platter of guacomole that came with a lot of chips and salsa. It was too big for us to eat. Our total bill there was $30 but we also gave our waiter a nice tip for watching our stuff while snorkeling.

We really enjoyed it there. Will likely go back in the spring.

We've snorkeled in Cozumel numerous times and we agree with Money Bar if you want to shore snorkel on your own. However, we have found better snorkeling by taking a boat tour to Colombia and Palancar reefs. We've gone with Island Marketing but there are several other companies that will take you there for $40 - $50 per person. All will require a taxi from the cruise terminal for around $10 to $14 each way depending on who you choose. Do a search on Palancar snorkel tours and you will find several companies to compare.
