Juneau: Mt. Roberts Tramway

I'm looking for opinions and information on the Mt. Roberts Tramway excursion. Is it worth doing? Can we book it independently of the ship when we arrive in Juneau? I don't want to book it through Princess and then have the weather so bad the day we're there that we can't see anything.

Don't book it in advance, there's no reason to. It's within walking distance, and it's $23.95 at the office. It's very worth it in my opinion. It was gorgeous. And I'm very scared of heights but I survived. :D

As long as there isn't a low cloud cover over Juneau, do the Mt. Roberts tram. We were able to buy our tickets, get right on, and went up and took some fantastic pictures of the scenery, watched an informational film, saw quite a few eagles, and did a little bit of walking around taking a look at the different view points. There are several hiking trails if you're in better shape than we were! If fact we went up again in the evening before we left Juneau. Your ticket is good for all day and they stamp your hand so you can return if you want. Nice gift shops and restaurant up there also.
