Raisinette Posted October 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Hello, I'm not at all familiar with Spanish white wines but am interested in trying some. I mostly drink Pinot Grigio at home - do they have that in Spain, or do they have something similar? Thanks for any tips!
RollieUK Posted October 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Pinot Grigio is an Italian wine. It is available in Spain in some stores but will cost far more than a Spanish wine. Try a Rueda. If you like Pinot Grigio you will probably like this.

It's thought to have it's history traced back to Burgandy as a mutation of Pinot Noir; hence I think you'd have to call it a French wine.
AtMaui Posted October 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2013 I drink almost nothing except Italian pinot grigio EXCEPT when I can find a Spanish alberano. I'll be in Barcelona in 10 days and I'm looking forward to finding it. I think you'll like it. I've not tried Rueda but I might.
MADflyer Posted October 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 27, 2013 I would definitely recommend a Spanish Albariño if you like Pinot Grigio. Most will come from the Rías Baixas region of Spain. The Rueda (origin) region of Spain produces several very popular wines as well, including verdejo , MARQUES DE RISCAL is a very famous and popular label. LondonTowner Posted October 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2013 Yes the Abarino wine from Galicia is very nice. You could also try the Blancs Pescador, from the Catalan region, Ribeiro also from Galicia. There are also Rioja white wines. However, IMHO the Spanish reds are far superior to the white wines. quercus alba Posted October 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 28, 2013 You might look into a cava as well if you like a little sparkle with your crisp whites.:)
