Rich500 Posted May 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Hello, My wife and I will be crusing the Med this summer and one of our ports of call is Athens. For this stop we were thinking of going on our own. I am courious to hear other people experiences who have done Athens on there own, such as the reliabilty of public transport, any great out of the way places you discovered, best times to see an attaction etc... Thanks in advance Rich
jody Posted May 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Rich, A group of 6 of us did Athens on our own last summer. It was inexpensive and easy, although we didn't see everything we might have with a guide. I've attached a link to my detailed review of my day in Athens, in case you want details. In short, we walked to the Metro and took the train to the Acropolis, walked through the Plaka to the Syntagma (sp) Square for the changing of the guards, and later had lunch near the Plaka. We took the train back to the port and walked back to the ship.
