Baltimore Hotel and cruise package

Hello,

Has anyone stayed at the Wingate by Windham in Litnthicum Heights? They offer a stay and cruise package for 139.00.

How far is that from the port?

In the past I have stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Stadiums and it was fine. No complaints. But I wanted something a little nicer and in a nicer area.

Any advice would be much appreciated:)

I am currently looking at hotel and cruise deals for Baltimore. I'd love to hear what people saw about Wingate. I was looking at the HIE at the Stadiums as my first choice for May 2014. But won't make any final plans until I am done researching. Hope people reply to this thread.

I ended up booking the wingate as you can cancel up until 6pm the day of your stay. Unless I hear anything different, that's where I will stay. I worry it will book up since its Christmas Vacation time.

The rooms seem nice and from what I gather it is one of the safer areas.

What is HIE? I will check it out.

I ended up booking the Holiday Inn Express at the stadiums (that is what HIE means) for my May 23rd cruise. The cruise leaves on a Friday. Since that is Memorial Day weekend alot of Inner Harbor hotels have a 4 night minimum even if you want to do the stay and cruise package (I was calling hotels directly this morning).

The Casino being built on Russell St. next to the HIE should be opening late 2nd quarter of 2014 to early/mid third quarter. So you would think the major construction noise happening now would be done by May 22nd.

There is 4 nights of Orioles home games starting the Thursday night we get there. But worst case, if we take the shuttle to the Inner Harbor for dinner and can't get it back to the hotel we take a cab.

The free shuttle to the port the next morning will be interesting they do it every hour on the hour and the half hour from 10am-1pm and you schedule your shuttle time when you check in.

I like the HIE's reviews on Tripadvisor because their shuttle seems the most professional and pretty much on schedule for the port drop off and pick up. Some of the other hotels hire outside shuttles to come in and some are disasters.

The price per room on the HIE website for the stay and cruise package for one night is $179. I did stay123 and got it for $119 a night (plus tax makes it $136 and some change). And with stay123 you pay a $42 deposit and pay the hotel the balance when you get there.

I have stayed there twice and booked stay123. Shuttle to get to the port was good. You have to book a time when you get there.

Last time there were no more early times because we arrived late to the hotel but it was fine.

Now on the way back it is not so simple. We had to wait a long time both times.

The rooms are nice, breakfast is good.

we have reservations at the Holiday Inn at the Stadiums. I should probably call them but maybe you will know. Do you know what times the shuttles are? We have FTTF so wanted to arrive to the port a little earlier than normal. BUT there is also a 1:00 Ravens game that day. Should we switch to a different hotel or will it not be a problem?

I should have read more posts:

anyway, we are booked at the Holiday Inn on Russell Street in December. There is a 1:00 Ravens game and of course the construction. Will getting to the Port be a issue?

Shuttles to the port are from 10am until 1pm on cruise days. You can't sign up for the shuttle until you check into the hotel. Call the hotel directly and see what their plans are for days of games that happen to be cruise days. If you don't like their answer switch hotels. They have 2 shuttle vans but I think they use one for luggage and the other for cruisers.

As long as you get to the hotel early enough to get the 10am or 1030am shuttle. You are not able to call ahead and book a time. Even though we got there pretty late last time we had absolutely no problem with the later shuttle. We still got there early enough and embarkation was a breeze. I am only concerned about the traffic since I hear that they are down to one lane for a while. I don't think the Ravens game will be a problem if you get the early shuttle. I am hoping Wingate will work for us. I am still nervous about my decision.

Were spending the night before we cruise. I will plan on catching the earliest shuttle. Then I won't need to worry

Sorry I must have been unclear. I meant getting there early enough the night before in order to book the early shuttle.

We got there at approx. 6pm the night before and only late spots were available.

I am sure you will be fine either way. Enjoy!

Most hotels with shuttles will not let you register for a shuttle time until you check in. If you check in at 3pm (or if you get there earlier and rooms are available) you have a better chance of getting on an earlier shuttle than say someone who arrives at the hotel at 9pm and registers for the shuttle the next morning.

The Wingate is nice and in a business park area, adjacent to other hotels and buildings. There aren't many restaurants nearby but there is a Chili's and a really good seafood restaurant, G&M. You should have no issue getting to the port because you'll be close to 295/BW Parkway. I did business with the Sales Manager of that property and I was impressed by the staff and lobby looked well-appointed and clean. No worries!
