Planning a solo vacation.

I went on my first cruise this year (Splendor to the Caribbean.) My friends are going on RCCL Quantum in spring of 2015, but I kind of want to do my own thing. I'm close to NY, but the itineraries are too close to what I already went on, I want something different. So I was looking into the Dream out of New Orleans in Jan or Feb 2015. I just have a few questions before I start "for real" planning.

*How far is the airport from the port?

*What are some affordable hotels in the area?

*I plan on flying in the morning before, and spending one night. And planning my flight home late afternoon the day we get back. Would this work?

Any other advice? Thank you.

I can't help on the airport question as I only live 2 hours from New Orleans. I would recommend the Drury Inn in New Orleans. It isn't far from the port. It is away from the noise of the French Quarter but close enough to walk there and to the Riverwalk (in my opinion). It is very secure and the rooms are very nice. There are good restaurants within walking distance. I would recommend having breakfast at Mothers if you want a good filling breakfast. http://www.mothersrestaurant.net/ Lots of good information at http://www.neworleansonline.com/ You might want to check the calendar to see when Mardi Gras is as it is sometimes in February. At that time hotels are very expensive.

Airport is around 25 miles. Rates on hotel vary from day to day. Mardi Gras rates are outrageous. Have you looked at North American home ports or New Orleans port of call. Hampton inn convention center or Saint Charles has a cruise rate of 129 but they don't offer shuttle.
