Back to Back Boarding Opinion

File this one under "First World Problems" or "She's one of those people".

But really I am truly curious.

 

I booked a penthouse suite on the Jewel about a year ago. Recently, like last week I booked another cruise to precede the first cruise to make this a back to back.

Unfortunately due to the close sailing date the same room is not available the first sailing. We will be in a balcony first then the PH suite the second sailing.

 

My favorite perk about the PH suite is getting on early. So I asked,

 

Can NCL honor the early boarding the first week. That's all. I would have the perk anyway. I will not be using it the second week since I will be on the ship.

 

They of course said "Unfortunately we would not be able to honor the request for priority embarkation for the sailing date on the Norwegian Jewel."

Do I ask one more time or drop it?

 

Yes, there are 1000 of other things I can spend my energy on. But coming on this board is my decompress time after work, so I ask our little community their opinion. I know what you are going to say, but I'm having fun.

I don't think our opinion matters. I've never seen an incident where NCL changed a policy simply because "the people on Cruise Critic said so..."

 

To your situation, in booking the suite, you paid them for the privilege of priority (not early, btw) embarkation. You have not paid for that privilege for the first cruise, so it wouldn't be fair to the people on that first sailing who DID pay for that privilege for NCL to cheapen it by giving it away for free.

You will be able to use it on the second leg, because they make you disembark with all the other passengers on the first leg. The only good part is not having to take your luggage.:)

 

B2B passengers will get back onboard earlier than any passenger on the second leg, suite or no suite (at least in Miami where we've done that twice).

In Tampa we reboarded with the suites since we were in one both weeks.

Just returned from a back to back. If you are not having the same cabin, you must pack up all of your luggage and recheck it as if you were checking it for the first time. A big pain. Same cabin both cruises no need to recheck luggage. Just leave everything in the cabin and reboard. However, get to board in the first group boarding.

Which ship were you on? Everyone else has always reported that if you had to switch cabins the room steward (or butler if in a suite) helped move everything to the new cabin. I have never heard of anyone that had to actually take their luggage off the ship between legs of a B2B.

Once again, a Cruise Critic classic: two totally conflicting responses, both believe they are 100%.

Not sure what your point is? I said I have NEVER heard of it and I haven't - I'm 100% percent sure of that. I never said it never happens.

Well, my point was was two-fold, if not obvious. The OP's question was answered adequately and the CC +5,000 club comes in typical fashion implying their anecdote as fact in some way.

 

Maybe it IS fact. The fact that it worked one way for one person and the fact that it worked a different way for another. Rules are rules but nothing is ever etched in stone.....in addition, rules could have and possibly will change.

I was on the Breakaway. BTB meet a 9:30 in the lobby and you are escorted off the ship and taken to the area where suite guests board. All BTB reboard at the same time as the suite guests board. There is not time to move your belongings and luggage to your new room since they are not yet done getting the rooms cleaned and ready. I was told that is why you must pack up your luggage and recheck it so it can be delivered to your new room. They said nothing about your room steward being able to transfer your luggage.

 

This WAS my experience on the Breakaway in October 2013. Like someone else said things change. I can only tell what HAPPENED to me.

If you arrive early enough so are waiting for boarding you could introduce yourself to the concierge at the suite check in if they have a quiet period.

 

Sure you can find something to discuss, perhaps when it would be convenient to be introduced to the butler to discuss the cabin move to the suite at the end of the cruise.

You got bad info. You simply pack your suitcase and have the steward move the suitcases to your new room. It doesn't matter if the new room is ready or not. The steward can and does work around a few suitcases in the room.

 

Just another glitch on the king of all glitches ship, the Breakaway.

I think you have to get off the ship n re-enter.

 

Only on US ports. But even then there should be no need to haul the luggage off the ship in between (the differing experience described in this thread is the first of it's kind I've seen).

why not show the 2nd weeks ticket to the counter agent, and they miught let you acccess the priority lounge which will give you access to the ship first.

It might be helpful to remember that the OP's question (aka the Thread Topic) is about whether or not they could use their suite amenity on a cruise where they are in a regular balcony cabin.

 

While hearing everyone's thoughts on moving luggage from one room to another is interesting, I don't see how that isn't really off topic and not helpful to getting the OP's question answered.
