Well, one thing is for certain, Ketchikan has gotten a lot of mileage out of that rain gage. Talk about a tourist promotion gimmick turning a negative into a positive. Betcha there has been millions of visitor photos taken of that thing. Ketchikan is very good at promoting, even though they don't have the most rain nor the most fish, LOL, they get credit. BTW--Somebody paid for the first one.

 

"One of the tourist highlights of Ketchikan, Alaska waterfront is the famous Liquid Sunshine Gauge, found on the side of the cruise dock Visitor Information Center, which the city uses to track the significant amount of rain that Ketchikan receives each year. A popular summer cruise ship port of call, Ketchikan is located at the start of the Inside Passage in southeast Alaska. Known as the Salmon Capital of the World, tourism, timber harvesting, and fishing, both recreational and commercial, are the cornerstones of the local economy."
