Back from Elation - Cheers program

Hi,

Back from the Elation.

My husband and I participated in the Cheers program. We both feel like it is probably a good deal if you like the idea of getting a drink when ever you want and not worrying about additional costs.

I averaged about 7 drinks a cruise. 2 bloody Mary's in the morning, a couple of Pina Coladas in the afternoon and then a couple of new drinks after dinner.

I must admit I had more drinks than that one night. That's the night I managed to donate a lot of money to the casino. As matter of fact I donated so much that night that I qualified for free drinks!!! Go figure.

Let's just say that I did not go back to the casino after that night.

We also bought it the second day.

One thing to keep in mind, is that if you buy it the first day, I think they charge taxes on the whole selling price. I could be wrong.

As nicely as possible... you're wrong. ;) You don't pay tax on the package price, just on the full price of individual drinks purchased while in US ports. So the drink price will say $0.00, but then there's a tax line for $0.37 or some such. (Drinks purchased in US ports without Cheers pay the tax as well.)

I've never heard of this program. Is it new and where can I find info about it? Sounds like it would be worth it on my next Elation cruise.
All the detail in the world here: https://www.goccl.com/~/media/Files/Irman/bookccl/shipboard_knowledge/My_Awesome_Bar_Program.pdf

Short version: $50+15% auto tip for up to 15 drinks per day, drinks up to $10 each. Unlimited soda and virgin frozen drinks. 25% discount on bottles of wine, bottled water, drinks over $10 each.

Can be purchased only first or second day of cruise. Must be purchased for the whole rest of the sailing - i.e., no picking which days you want it. Must be purchased by every person over 21 in the same cabin, no exceptions, medical or otherwise.

It was absolutely worth the price (and then some) on my recent 5 day on the Paradise! Roomie and I both loved it and more than got our money's worth. :)

Hope that helps!

i bought mine the second day, pretty hard to drink 8 beers after a early morning get up and flight took 3 hours. so for me would have never got my monies worth first night, but we sure did the rest of the cruise.

Did you buy drinks any drinks the first night? I read once that if you buy drinks the first night, then buy Cheers on day 2, that Carnival back charges you for Cheers on Day 1 and zeros out your day 1 drink purchases.
