Royal Caribbean visual alert system

Will be traveling on Navigator of the Seas with an elderly aunt. She hears fine with her hearing aids in, but at night when she removes them, I am concerned that she won't hear a knock on the door or an emergency announcement/alarm. She will be in her own cabin, about five cabins away from us. RCI has a "visual alert system". I am guessing it is a bright light that gets installed in the cabin? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Suggest you contact RCCL's SPecial Needs Department for details and to make any special arrangements that might be required.

Of course, I definitely will be contacting them, but I was wondering more about people's personal experience with this as opposed to a canned response from RCI.

They will probably provide a full ADA kit like this. The door knocker, in particular, will be more like this. Hope that helps!

RCCL's website clearly states what can be provided for the hearing impaired. It also states that you need to complete a Guest Special Needs Form and contact the Access Department. Here's the link http://www.royalcaribbean.com/allaboutcruising/accessibleseas/hearingImpairment.do

Be aware that you have to request 30-60 days ahead of time.

 

My TA did for us, but we never got one on our latest cruise. I didn't pursue once we got on since too many other things to worry about though.
