We hade no excursions planned for St Maarten. Just going to head sown downtown on the Water Taxi, do some shopping, and for the only time on this cruise, hit fast food. McDonalds has a Chicken Mac. Big Mac but made with chicken instead of beef. love them. dyzujube.jpgapy4yvy9.jpg

Nice! I had to look it up...it's owned privately by a Russian who distributes Stoli vodka. But that is one reason I love to cruise....I can show up in my boat too :p

For debarkation morning we booked an excursion through Carnival that was to take us to the rain forest and then to the airport. We were to meet in the main lounge at 820 to be escorted off to customs and then our tour. This is my only sour spot of the cruise with Carnival. Since only 4 people booked this they decided to cancel, not tell anyone, no call, note letter no announcement in the lounge even. We did not know until we tried to find the tour and a local rep from the company informed us that it was cancelled. They were not happy they had to unload the van and give us back our luggage.

We stored our bags across the street at Aloha's and went to find a drink and come up with a new plan for the day.

We decided to try to take the ferry across to Bacardi. It is 1.00 per person round trip. The taxi to Bacardi is 3.00 per person each way, much less than the 45-60 dollars you would pay for an excursion, and the tour of Bacardi, including 2 drinks is free.

Overall impressions:

Great ship and crew, extremely friendly and helpful. Second time sailing with Marcelo as Cruise Director.

Love staying on Panorama Deck, close to everything and it's a real quite location.

This was our third year In a row doing this trip. Next November going to do the Carnival Conquest to Cozumel, Belize, isla Roatan, and Grand Cayman.

Only sore spot was the debarkation tour cancellation.

Thanks for all the great info and Photos.

I would love for you to name names and post links for your excursions done non Carnival

Not that Carnival is out of the question but...

also how far was the walk from the ship to the ferry to head over to the Bacardi Factory.

we come in a day or two prior and were thinking of dropping bags with the ship,

head over the Bacardi,

come back and check in have a bite to eat then head out to see old San Juan.

Looking forward to any other info you have for us.

Thanks again for sharing :)

The walk to the ferry might be two blocks, it is the next set of piers down from the Valor, if you see the bars and little shops you know it's the right place, plus there is a Bacardi sign on the side of the building where you catch the ferry. The ferry and the terminal on the other side are not spectacular but for 1.00 it is a real bargain. There are people waiting to take you to the taxis and to Bacardi, just ask when you get off, the taxis are parked in the garage next door when you get off the ferry.

The only excursion we did not book with Carnival was in St Thomas, Luen's Island Tours is what is on the card he gave us, for 25 dollars we got a complete tour of the island stopped at a beach for 15-20 minutes, fed the ducks and iguanas. You can get him at yellofevah @ yahoo this was the best tour we have had on St Thomas.
