First cruise was just ok with another line want to try MSC Yacht Club

Hi All

 

We recently completed our first cruise on the Royal Princess ( 12 day Med Cruise) we are a couple in our late forties with an older teenage son.

 

Princess really did not click with us we travel overseas alot and like to live the local scene not transport everything from home to our holiday.

 

We have looked at MSC Yacht club concept and MSC in general and think it maybe a better fit for us .

Which ship?

 

If it's not the Divina but another Fantasia class ship sailing in Europe! you'll certainly get a Mediterranean vibe onboard as well as ashore. Downside (for some) is a relatively low percentage of English speaking passengers. I prefer that as like you, I don't go overseas to be surrounded by my own nationality and customs but to experience differences.

 

Not yet tried the yacht Club but not heard any one on here who has that has not enjoyed the experience.

Preziosa Sept next year ,we like the itineraryand it has a couple of ports we have not been to as well

 

The other option is the Lirica for the short ex Dubai cruise ,we have travelled in most euro countries before and the language thing has never caused us any issues we make an attempt to pickup some basic local phrases and it normally gets us through.

 

We are non smokers but not fanatical about others who smoke are there designated areas on deck or is it anyplace anytime ?

MSC has gradually reduced smoking areas over the years. There is no smoking allowed in any eating venue or the theatre. The majority of bars and longes are also non smoking. Smoking is permitted in the casino and on one side of open decks, cigar lounge (if the ship has one) and another designated bar. Smoking is not permitted on balconies and discouraged in cabins. I've never smelt traces of smoke in my cabin from a previous smoking passenger.

 

Occasionally you'll find some one smoking where they are not supposed to but I guess that can happen anywhere. There's always someone who thinks the rules don't apply to them

We are looking a a YC 2 on deck 12 we wanted a yc3 but they have all gone

As I work whilst travelling whats the inet and email like in suite ?

While I have not stayed YC, I have been to a couple of parties in a YC2 suite on the Fantasia. What you lose in the balcony stakes you certainly gain in space and views. The butler was amazing keeping all our drinks topped up then leading us the length of the ship to a specially reserved table for our group in the MDR.

 

Where is 'All Aboard?' (our host) when you need him? He prefers the YC2 to YC3 suites.

 

All accommodation in the Fantasia class has wi-fi. It is not fast but certainly adequate if you avoid busy times of the day when the satellite connection is being shared by too many.

I would be interested in further feedback re the YC2 location on deck 12

is the access to the YC amenities straight forward the loss of the balcony is a shame but in late sept east med I suspect it would not get much of an use anyway we really only used ours on the Royal Princess when coming in and out of port
