Currency onboard??

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm a 17 year old, and because my parents dealt with the gratuities and I used the seapass card thingymajig on past cruises , I was wondering what currencies are permitted onboard?? I kind of forgot..

The thing is.. I want to surprise my older brother because it's his birthday by paying for the whole family to go to Portofino, and I need to know if I can pay with aussie dollar, or does it have to be in US dollars?? I don't want to wait until they charge my parents' seapass card.. want to pay upfront.

Thanks so much!! :)

They will charge it to a seapass account only. They do not take cash of any kind. You will have to negotiate with your parents. Sorry for the not so good news and yes they take aussie dollars.

One thing you could do is go to the customer relations and put money on your parents' seacard the day of the dinner and then tell them at dinner what you did. The ship will accept cash put on a pax seacard at anytime. That way when your parents found out, you would already have put a credit to cover the charge on their account.

When we had our DS and his family onboard with us, I put money on his account since we wanted to pay for their shore excursion as a surprise gift. The ship gladly took the money.

If you make reservations prior to your cruise, I believe it charges to a credit card straight away rather than to an onboard account? With the OP being under the age of consent, this might be a different matter though?

I was wondering if there might be a way to work that. OP, could you ask a friend's parent to call and charge that to their credit card as a "gift" to those sailing--and you pay that adult in cash when they make the call? I would be willing to do that for one of my daughter's friends if they asked and had the cash there.
