Splendor Spa

Recommended Posts

:(Hi everyone, I just wanted to let some folks know about the Cloud 9 Spa on the Splendor.

I know that I am to blame as for "putting all my eggs in one basket"

And also this is just My experience so please do not bash me here, I am writing this just incase that someone out there is like me and had planned on spending time in the spa.

ok here goes, first of all we had bought FTTF just for the purpose of getting on the ship early to make sure we were able to get the spa passes for the week, as from reading many posts here on CC board that they sell out quickly for cruises with 4 sea days. So it was a Must for me to get there early so we would not miss out. A little about me so in hopes nobody gets nasty with me and again,.. it is just my experience. My husband and I were spending our 25th wedding ann. & my 50th birthday on board the Splendor so we splurged this time on a wrap around balcony, so we did not get all the price drops that were going on for that sailing, but we didn't care as we spend a lot of time on the balcony even when it was Ice Cold out there we just loved the wake of the ship. This cruise was for us just to relax and enjoy.

Ok now back to the Spa, we were the first ones to book the Spa passes and we were so very excited, we went back to our cabin unpacked and the min the spa was opened we were there in our cozy bathrobes and all.

We wanted to use the thalasso pool first then do the hot steam and work our way around to the warm rooms with heated tile loungers and then go to the next cooler room and so on,.. the way the spa is meant to be used. When we arrived they told us the pool was being worked on and will be closed until tomorrow. That was fine, no problem, as we know things do need to be fixed and we would just use it tomorrow. Then we went to the steam room that was great until the door kept getting opened about 10 times, no joke , no less then 10 maybe more, with the spa workers trying to sell passes and do tours, so the steam would all go out of the room each time until there was no steam left in the room at all, ok no problem again, we figured it was still the first day and they had to push the sales, so we moved to the next room, we tried 4 of the tile seats none were even close to being warm they were very cold tile seats, so we went into the next 2 room with the same problems??? when we asked about this to one of the spa workers that was doing another tour now in this room, she told me to go and inquire about it at the desk! So that is what my husband and I did, they said sorry but they have many tile seats out of order and people can control the knobs outside of the doors and that is how it gets broken. So at this point we were not relaxed, now we were a bit frustrated so we just said ok and we will try again tomorrow. Next day we called ahead to the Spa since we were on the complete other end of the ship and I didn't want to take that loooong walk to find out if the thass. pool was fixed yet, she said Yes it is fixed! Yippie I was very happy and really needed to distress from the day before and also from the very crazy year we have had, it is Time to just chill out and kick back! So off we went down that long hallway. :0)

We get into the pool and I am loving it! I have to hold on to the side of the pool so I do not float away, then after a few mins I look at my hand and it is Full of Blue paint and glue with a tile stuck to my swim suit! OMG I mean fingertips to wrist total BLUE! I started LOL and said I didn't want to tell anyone because then they would have to close the pool again! :( I had to just about rip my skin off to get all the stuff off my hand.

Then we went to try the steam room and the whole nine yards all over again today, but the same thing happened again. Tours with people in and out when we are trying to relax, how can we relax with a bunch of people opening the door and talking and not in a quiet tone either, and who wants a bunch of people staring at them every 5 mins. ? so again No steam & no heated tile chairs " that worked" so that is when we just gave up and asked for our money back, I was glad we did because the next day we went by and the thass. pool was closed again. Oh wait one more thing, I was also in the bathroom of the spa looking for the shower? I asked the tour woman, YES she was doing a tour in the bathroom also! I asked her where were the showers? She said they did not have any in the bathroom only in the hallway by the other rooms, Now I know she was wrong about that because I read here on these boards that the showers were great in the bathroom, so when she left with her tour I opened all the bathroom stall doors and bam there were 2 showers, they are not marked on the outside of the doors and all the doors are kept shut, so just open each one and you will find the shower, by the way the shower in there in great!

Im so glad I brought my book and had a great balcony, because after those 2 days, I had a Great relaxing cruise.

I hope they get things fixed and limit the tours or do them after or before the spa opens I think that would help a lot

We are on the Splendor in a spa balcony next July they better get their act together or I am going to freak out on them. I love the spa area primarily the t-pool and steam rooms and never had a problem with people getting tours and being bothersome.

I have never read anything at all about what we experienced, and we are people that really do not complain and pretty much go with the flow. I just hope that they do fix what they are doing there or I am sure they will have a bunch of unhappy people.

We will always try again as we never have had problems in the past on other lines, but this was our first time using carnivals spa.

Omg! Now I am nervous  I have made pretty much the exact preparations you did (FTTP) in hopes of purchasing a spa pass and spending a relaxing week in the Spa. I am definitely going to have a conversation with them before handing over my $$ because what you experienced would be a definite "no-go" for me. There should be a specified time of day for tours. I don't mind visiting outside of those times. I am also expecting some "heat" where it's supposed to be.

I guess if worse comes to worse. I will play it by the day and pay for the day pass instead of the weekly. I probably won't go everyday anyway.

Thank you soooo much for the info! :)

Wow, sorry you had such a horrible experience. That's just awful. I cannot believe the paint/glue part of it all. Just WOW!

You are so correct, it defeats the point of being in a steam room if there is no steam in it. Tours should be limited to only a certain time of the day. It really does jack with the ambiance doesn't it?

Hopefully they have everything up and running on par now. I'm glad you got your money back.

How bizarre.

We used the spa on Splendor daily and had none of the issues you describe. It was one of our favorite parts of the cruise.

Sorry they seemed to be having an off week.

Yes we also were planning on it being the best part of our cruise, We did so much research on it.

I think they were not doing well in selling out with the week Spa passes on this cruise that is why they were doing so many tours, but also how did they expect to sell out when so many things were not in working order? The spa manager did assure us she was going to look into all the issues and try and have things fixed as soon as possible, but it was not going to be done within the time of our cruise. The main reason I did write this,.. only for the fact that We did plan just about everything around using the Spa for our 8 day cruise, and I wish I did not have done that, so what I guess I am saying is just to have a back-up plan, because things are not always going to be as they were on someone else cruise.

Thank you for posting. I am booked on the Dream for May and like you I plan to purchase a spa pass early (I have FTTF) and plan to spend a lot of time in there. It is just me and my DD (20) and her best friend so I will have a lot of relaxation time to myself. Now I won't really plan to spend much time in there the first day/night and will be sure to ask them before I buy a pass if everything is in working order. I sailed on the Celebrity Solstice and they have the heated tile loungers. I loved sitting there reading, it was very relaxing except for one day when two women were having a loud conversation in there. For others please remember that people are trying to relax in there and it is not the place to carry on conversations.

At least you were able to get a refund of that money. I at first had a spa balcony booked but am not glad I changed to an aft balcony and decided to just get the pass. I would have been extremely upset if I had paid the extra for the spa balcony and not had proper use of the spa.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am on the Splendor now and I purchased the pass on the 1st night but did not use it until the 2nd day. On the 1st night there were loads of tours because they were trying to sell the passes. On the 1st sea day I did experience a couple of tours while I was in one of the heated tile lounger rooms. The 1st spa lady opened the door and allowed folks to stroll in and interrupt our Zen moment. The second one had more sense and allowed people to view through the glass.

I have not had any issues as since. Except for the occasional loud group coming in talking. A few stern glares from the older folks in the room and they get the message. LOL.

The heated tub was VERY good and heated. No problems there at all. Hope that helps. :)

Sorry for the choppy reply. I am on my kindle.

Oh, good grief. Here I'm reading this thread and starting to panic since I'm in a spa balcony cabin in October.

And then I realize that the thread's over 1-1/2 years old.

I'm guessing that if there were still problems - ongoing problems - that there would be LOTS of threads and posts that were much more recent/current.

Why, of why, do people resurrect these old threads? :(

Patti and I had spa passes on our recent Splendor cruise, and there were no issues with the facilities. However, at $349 a couple, it comes out to $50 a day which is not worth it IMHO. We will not be doing it on our upcoming Breeze cruise.

While the tread is really old, we've sailed twice on the Splendor, in spa balcony cabins, specifically for access to Cloud 9. Love (LOVE) it! So much that we are now booked on Magic, spa balcony, again for access to Cloud 9. The cabin is barely $50 more than a standard balcony - for us it's a no-brainer.
