Hi Lgfromdg!

Oh Laura, I am surprising myself too lately. I have been thinking the same thing. My high heel dancing shoes remained in the closet too. I hurt! I suppose a time comes when a torch needs passing and I see your future trips with your sisters...Carry it on girlfriend!

Coka - I'm older than you and my sister is older than me, so there's no way we can carry your torch, especially considering that those crisp, white sheets are calling our names pretty early in the evening. :o:p

So nice to read your review coka! We were with you and Mr. coka in spirit but wished we were enjoying the Breakaway with you. Ben did happen to see you sail away. He has the most amazing view of the harbor with Lower Manhattan in front and the Verrazano to his right. Sounds like a return trip on the Breakaway to Bermuda is in order :)

Hi Coka,

How did I miss this fantastic review earlier? Thanks for so many great tips as we're going on in Jan. Can't wait especially after reading it through your eyes! Thanks for taking the time to do it.

Sounds like Mr. Coka is a much better traveling companion than "Virginia." When you quoted prices in the duty free shop it brought back one of your earlier reviews. Congrats on your achievement!:)

You gave me so many laughs. Mr. Coka sounds like Bob would in a casino saying it's totally idiocy at the slots but then you drop the Mermaid surprise in Nassau....too funny. Congrats to Mr. Coka on his achievement.:)

Have fun on your next Dawn adventure and I look forward to reading all about it here!

Happy Holidays to you and the Mr.!:D

To all returning tomorrow on the Breakaway....hope you packed a warm coat and snow boots !!

Sauer-kraut, I think it is a 3800 dollar review...mr. Coka spilled the beans that he DID win as well on the Breakaway's Buccaneer Pirate machine (Friday after Atlantis while I was in the spa). Should I be happier or more mad? I will say he put his winnings to an appropriate use.

Cruitenn, I really hope to meet you someday on a future sailing!:D.

Lgfromdg, how about Lara-lox carrying the torch?

Jimswims, let me know and I will be there! Oh...the breakaway has a two-nighter sometime soon so that might be an option for a cruise fix! I kept looking for Ben! Did he see me wave while out on the waterfront? LOL

Jschwartz, we booked a guarantee and did not know where we would end up. We have no issue using the stairs or the elevator. Gosh, I could not tell if you should move or not. For us, the location worked out great. There are some times we want a particular location and that is when choosing a suite. I do find on the large ships, I tend to hang out in the areas closest to stateroom. Walking to the other of ship and going upstairs/taking elevator to the spa was part of my workout. I guess do not switch if originally happy with what you first selected.

Hi SnorklinBarb, I hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise! How can you not? I am thinking you will love love love the waterfront complex! Enjoy!

Everyone else, thank you for the nice remarks!

I hope you all have a wonderful new year and may all your wishes come true!

And who is Lara-lox? Not even knowing who she is, I do know she'd be more capable of carrying your torch than me :o Although, I really don't think anyone could fill "Princess Di's" shoes. I never go on the Gem without thinking of you.

Forgot to mention - Coka, we did hear of a CC guest who, in fact, did call HD Hugo in the middle of the night (contact number given out at Meet & Greet) to report a cabin light bulb had gone out.:eek:

It was clear from your review that you were joking about it, but there's always some idiot out there who has already done it for real.

Oh, more congrats to Mr. Coka on the even bigger win. Now I've got to look up Buccaneer Pirates. What kind of machine?

She is a British cruise critic who travels solo and writes fun reviews about food, entertainments, fashion, and all the pals she meets up along the way! She currently has one on the main pages about the Spirit.

Too funny about the lightbulb! The pirate machine is a two cent slot and is located in the very narrow section of casino before she splits into two while heading towards the aft. In the narrow section, the aisle divides rows of slots, two on each side as you walk through. The machine is closest to the aisle on the right side. The maximum bet was 4.50 according to the mr.

Oh...and it laughs out like a buccaneer pirate:D

  • 2 weeks later...
Quick question' date=' Coka - Is IMPAC a band from St. Vincent? Looks like 5 guys on the You Tube clips, everything from soul to reggae to swing?

Looks like you're stuck with the pirate laugh as a memoir of the slot winnings.;):D[/quote']

Hi Barb,

Sorry I did not give you a quick answer! IMPAC was not on this sailing. I went through all the freestyle dailies and they were not listed anywhere. I hope you a wonderful time on Breakaway! Happy New Year!

As always...Great review and perfect timing. Our little Tyler graduates from high school in May and one of the ships he (we) are looking at going on is this ship. Glad to see that it will be cruising the Caribbean. I'll make sure that he reads your review when he (and Spencer) return from Disneyland where they are doing their annual New Years tradition.

I have not been good about keeping up with all that is new and exciting about the Breakaway and out of the blue I just booked the Feb 2nd sailing. Imagine my delight to find an awesome Coka review on my first search! Now I feel totally prepared for our up coming cruise.

Thanks for the great information and the chuckles, Coka :D

Hi Ocean! Oh, our babies are all grown up! You raised 'em well! Spence and Tyler will LOVE Breakaway's water slides, the ropes course, the arcade, and almost everything else about the ship. They will think the cabins are small compared to all the other Norwegian ships and cruise lines they have sailed, but they will love everything else the ship offers. Can you believe it was TEN years ago we were out out on deck on the Norwegian Sky dancing and ringing in the new year? Right now I am in my pajamas drinking water. But wasn't I in my Jammie's drinking water back then too? Well, maybe it was something skimpy and drinking water in between each cocktail...hahaha.

Hi dzynymom, Happy New Year! I too did not keep up on the Breakaway frenzy as I thought I would not sail until after her first year. Like you, I booked about four weeks out and suddenly had lots of questions and read as mush possible. Other reviews have great tips and I learned from them as well. Have a wonderful time on your holiday!

Haha...Great minds think alike - Last night at 11pm as I'm send text messages to the kids, wishing them all Happy New Year....I thought about our New Years cruise. Not only the celebration itself on the pool deck but all the characters that we meet.....Remember this was the cruise where we meet Chris (who later became friends with Tracy) The $400.00 bottle of Dom Perignon (thank goodness we didn't buy it), The "Dumb & Dumber" guys (one of which called his cat ever night from the ship (he had to been the dumber one) This was also the cruise that we worn the tuxedo outfits and you were mistaken for an officer. AHHHHH.......Great Times! ! ! ! !

OMG - I guess I have had brain gas.....it's the Getaway that we are looking at going on. SO if you can book that ship...cruise...and write a review, I would appreciate it. I hate brain gas.....or I really, really need a cruise.

Thanks for the amazing review! Three quick spa questions:

1. Are the spa activities you describe (sauna, jets, etc.) coed or separated by gender?

2. Do you know if you book a massage or other service (which I imagine are not included in the spa pass) do you get access to the activities you describe (sauna, jets, etc.)?

3. Your description of the men's shave sounds like a real treat for my husband - any chance you know the cost?

Thanks!!

I happen to agree!! :D

.

I agree as well. Just read a 'review' (I use the term loosely) on another board that by page 2 gave me a headache....Coka's reviews are ALWAYS an absolute pleasure to read.

Edited:

Just wanted to say that I just finished your review....yours are one of the few I like to see end. I always want more.

Thanks for taking such time and care in your cruise reviews. :)

Hahaha, no go on the Getaway for a while for me! I did not write about it in this review but upon first boarding I went to O'Sheehan's, removed my coat, went to ladies room...upon return lines of passengers were coming onboard and one gal asked me where she could go to dine. I answered three different locations. Suddenly, others were asking me too and what was good for what...so I answered them too. Afterwards, the gal saw me at a table with Ed and she Said, "Oh, I thought you worked here!" ...and I was not wearing a tuxedo!

1. Yes, they are all coed. When I first found this out I was not sure I wanted the pass. Then I realized this is really great for couples and I found my issue with the rooms being coed were unfounded. I did sneak some peeks at some buff males though...;)

2. You do not get access to spa area when you book a massage or other service. The locations are in a different location...right before entering is the salon and teeth whitening...and once inside downstairs are the treatments rooms.

3. I threw the information sheet away. I remember 99 dollars plus or minus 10.
