Fort Lauderdale cruise port to Miami Airport

Shuttle (check with Go Airport, QLS and MJS) will cost about $35-40+ per person and the ride takes about 45+ minutes.

Taxi will run about $80-85+tip (for the cab) so it is a better deal for 3-4 sharing a cab. Car service (check with Holland Limo and Larry's Limo) should be about the same as a cab, but a much nicer ride.

Tri-Rail only costs under $5 each, but you'll first need a cab to the FLL station (about $15) and the trains can run slow (especially weekends) and may not be very luggage friendly. With a 1:45 flight you should have the time if you can put up with the hassel.

Of course the cruise line shuttle bus is always an option.

Tri-rail would be the most economical ($15 taxi to the station, and then a flat $5 per person on the train) but you're going to be playing against the clock. If you plan on having more than a small rolling suitcase and backpack per person, don't even think about doing this. It's not worth the headache of schlepping your bags on and off public transit.

The train only runs every hour from the nearest stop to the cruise port- departing at the top of the hour (well, 3 minutes past, close enough).

It's a 45 minute train ride.

If you can make the 10:03 train, I'd say go for it no question. It depends on how much you'll be traveling with, and how risk-averse you are. Worst case scenario is if you miss the 10:03 train, and then the next train is delayed a half hour (which is possible as they are doing work on the tracks). This would put you at the airport 90 minutes before your flight.

We recently used nothing but public transit to make it from the Port of Miami back to FLL It looked like this

1) Walk from ship to trolley stop

2) Trolley to train station

3) metrorail to the station to transfer to tri-rail

4) Tri-rail from Miami to Fort Lauderdale

5) Shuttle bus from Tri-rail station to the airport.

It took nearly 3 hours.

We just got back on Saturday from our cruise and I can now attest to the fact that using Tri-rail is very simple and IS luggage friendly. Both of our trains had very long luggage racks and lots of people with luggage were using Tri-rail for their transportation. I do not understand why so many people advise against using Tri-rail with luggage. It's no different than putting luggage in and out of your vehicle. You have to lift it a little bit to get it inside the train, but you also have to lift it to put it in your personal vehicle.

We flew in and out of West Palm Beach (saved over $400 by flying in there) and our cruise went out of Port Everglades. Took the Tri-rail from PBI down to Fort Lauderdale airport stop and then back from that stop to PBI. Easy peasy and it was so much cheaper than other modes of transportation. :)
