mamaofami Posted December 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2013 I read here that Travelscoot was making a scoot that would go backwards without need ing to use your legs to push it. Anyone know anything about that? I have a friend interested if they can get it that way.

mamaofami Posted December 10, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted December 10, 2013 Thank you. I don't see any info yet for the rear electric apparatus but I did order the basket that I've been meaning to get for a while now.

RLM77 Posted December 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2013 There are several pictures of it on Elizabeth's Travelscoot blogspot. This is a video of the new TSA in action! Here is a brief review: Jim from Australia shared an email he recently sent to Hardy Huber (TravelScoot's inventor) about the new model.** Congratulations on the new model Dear Hardy You must be very proud of your newest creation! Mine arrived last night, but I didn't get to use it until today. Am I impressed! The controller function is brilliant! No sudden take-off from start. No sudden take-off from slowing down. The brakes are a great improvement - easier on people with weak hands like me. And all the little finishing details - the easier battery plug, the easier charging in place, those hard plastic protectors for the cables and electrics, the neat hand grip and throttle, the clear motor power LEDS. To all this add a motor with no belt, and still the lightest portable scooter on the market! Many, many thanks for the time and trouble you have put into this design. Cheers Jim Marshall Indooroopilly, Australia That's all I could find. marlee
mamaofami Posted December 23, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted December 23, 2013 That looks like a great improvement. Mine is still in good condition so no rush to replace it, but I did just get my basket.
DonnasMom&Dad Posted January 11, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 11, 2014 I have recently bought a second TravelScoot II, the model with the back-up feature, as mentioned above, it has some great improvements, beside backing up, the breaks work really good, applying the left brake, and revving the motor, the brake keeps the scooter from moving. :o The motor is built in to the left rear wheel and is direct drive, so no drive belt. I have modified the battery holder, to hold 2 batteries, side by side, under the seat, in front of the yoke, so you have twice the distance, and you can charge the batteries , without removing them. :D Cato :) Completed Cruises ! xxoocruiser Posted January 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) How does the new travel scoot do in the rain? On cobblestone streets? My DH will need to bring a scooter on a Baltic cruise we have scheduled for next July and I'm not certain about the limitations of the scooter. Thanks Yoletta In general mobility scooters are not recommended to be used in rain or snow. Reason being that unlike a car the electronics of a mobility scooter are exposed which increases the chances of water shorting out the electronics. Therefore precaution must be taken to prevent water from getting into those parts. Unfortunately one can't always avoid rain when scooting about as it can come about suddenly . Therefore when approaching puddles on the sidewalk, slow down or go around. Do not submerge the battery. Also you need to take precaution when breaking as they may not be as effective when operating on dry. Additional precautions that can be taken are to purchase a clear shower cap to place over the tiller electronics and purchase a pocket size rain poncho that when worn while seated will help to cover the motor. nieciez Posted January 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) I've driven my original TS over cobblestones without a problem....it is a bump ride though! Here are a couple pics and I have ridden it over rougher stones than pictured. Edited January 13, 2014 by nieciez
katisdale Posted January 14, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I have the original travelscoot (now 5 years old, how did I ever manage) and have had it on cobblestones both before and after I had the seat reupholstered with extra padding. The scoot was so much better on the cobbles than the transport chair I had used previously. It is bumpy but not bad. The bumps were less noticeable with the extra padding. We were in what I would call a "frog strangler" rain in St. Petersburg. The scoot just kept going. I put a shower cap over the motor and had a poncho on that I put over the tiller. I did not have a problem.

A shower cap wouldn't work on the new TravelScoot, as the motor is built in to the left rear wheel, but a poncho may, drooped over the whole unit, including driver :D Cato :)
nieciez Posted January 14, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Just be sure that your poncho doesn't get caught between the wheel...that happened to me in Alaska.....it was a mess pulling that plastic out where it got wrapped around the wheel shaft. Edited January 14, 2014 by nieciez

LaCat3 Posted January 20, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I got my travelscoot (new model) in October and have tried it in on Dalmatian Coast and Western Caribbean cruises. For getting on and off the ship, if DH can walk, I suggest letting one crew member handle the scooter and another assist your DH. HoHos, in general, accomodate the travelscoot but check ahead to be sure. As for excursions, you can call the Seattle folks and ask questions of them. They usually recommend "panoramic" tours - basically bus and nothing more BUT look at each one and if interested check into the type of transport to see if the scooter will be acceptable. On Baltic cruise last summer, I was using a rollalator and did private tours and HoHOs exclusively. I HIGHLY recommend a private company in St. Petersburg. The company we chose even had a "comfort" tour at a bit slower pace. If you have questions you can email me lacat3 at bellsouth dot com
