Pitzel Posted December 13, 2013 #27 Share Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks for the photos! As a suite guest, were you able to avoid some of the chaos of getting on and off the ship in Tampa? What time did you arrive on embarkation day? We are sailing in February and just trying to better understand what we might be in for, assuming that boarding issues are not resolved by then. Thanks! legion3 Posted December 13, 2013 Author #28 Share Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks for the photos! As a suite guest, were you able to avoid some of the chaos of getting on and off the ship in Tampa? What time did you arrive on embarkation day? We are sailing in February and just trying to better understand what we might be in for, assuming that boarding issues are not resolved by then. Thanks! Well what worked for us may not work again. We arrived at the port at 10:30 and were told of the 1pm business. We also recieved two calls the days before. I had enough experience with the port if tampa to choose to ignore those calls. At 10:30 we were dropped off at the port and turned in our luggage, then we went over to the aquarium next door, paid to get in, cruise passengers get a discount, they had a security room that we were able to drop off our carry ons. Spent an hour at the aquarium and then ate and used the facilities then began heading back around 11:45 to the port and joined the already forming lines. We got in the front area near the stairs as most people were lining up in front of the escalator. At around noon they began letting people up the stairs and escalator and we lined up alongside the building. Maybe 20 minutes or so they opened the doors and let us go in but then we stopped at security. Computers were down. Waited around 40 minutes but at least we were inside, the bulk were outside and most in the sun. Sometime around 1:20 or so we began the process to go through.security. Once past security, only two of four scanners were operating, then skipped by the regular checkin line, for suites go all the.way to the end of the check in area. Were then checked in, all by hand computers still down. Were in the vip lounge a little before 2 and onboard by 2 (ish) and went to our cabin and then to Cagny's. If the computers were not down, so they claimed, this timeline might have been a bit quicker. But that bottleneck cause the lines and 1pm arrivers to back up all around the building and wait over 2.5 hours or more. Good luck.
alwalaska Posted December 13, 2013 #29 Share Posted December 13, 2013 So glad to see they have put real chairs at the kids cafe. Last year they had these soft cube things to sit on that were very uncomfortable for an adult. As there were no kids on our voyage and the whole buffet was overly full, hubby and I chose to sit there, rather than stand and eat. I can personally tell you that the "real chairs" are still very uncomfortable for adults to sit at unless you are very short and very skinny. They are designed for kids, unfortunately, most kids that would enjoy sitting there are not old enough to sit without mom and dad. I'm not sure what the best answer would be. We were able to sit in the chairs for short amount of time, but usually we only were feeding the kids and not trying to eat a family meal. You can sort of lean against the railing as well. zazou Posted December 14, 2013 #32 Share Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Hello, We will be on the Dawn on the New Years cruise. We have an excursion booked in Belize and the meeting time is in local time. I'm trying to figuring out if the local time will be the same as the ship time. I was wondering if you can tell me if there was a time change, if so, where it took effect and how many hour did you have to add (or remove) to your watch ? Also, our e-docs is saying that we will tender in Roatan, was that the case for you? Thanks a lot! Barb Nahoumi Posted December 14, 2013 #34 Share Posted December 14, 2013 It was no longer Virginia and was a gentleman named....ahhh its on the tip of my tounge. Didn't see him much, he did greet us at the Vip area, and he escorted us off at Roatan, and got with me about a charge on my bill and then escorted us off in Tampa pass the lines. Roel or something like that. sorry Yes, I heard that Virginia was going on vacation, then changing ships. Does anyone know which one she's on now? Thank you, OP, for these wonderful pictures of one of my favorit ships.
