What would you eliminate on CCL to get a 25% fare reduction across the board

WOW 25% That's a big price cut.

Here are some the big things our cruise fare pays for. (cruise fare is 100%)

Fuel 20%

Payroll 15%

Food 8%

All the other stuff like Commissions, Sales and Marketing, Interest, Ship Maintenance etc. take up the rest.

So if we chop 50% off each of the Fuel, Payroll and Food costs we could get close to a 25% reduction in the cruise fare. Hmmm, But how?

Fuel. Cut that cost by just not going anywhere. Pull out of Port, go out 20 or 30 miles and drift for 7 days. Hey, who needs another trip to Nassau or Freeport anyways.

Payroll and Food. Cut the wait and kitchen staff entirely. We won't need them because dining will be prepacked baloney sandwiches. Yummy! Can't wait.;)

I wonder which wine pairs best with baloney?

Boone's Farm Mountain Berry. :D

Maybe Carnival could just do away with the MDR's and buffet altogether. At various locations on the ship, they could have booths set up with fishing poles for rent, and bait for sale. You just have your S&S card swiped, get a pole, and go catch your own dinner. Then you would take your catch to a cleaning station, have your S&S card swiped, and your fish would be cleaned and cooked for you (extra charge for tartar sauce, lemon, and seasonings). No more fancy desserts either. Just S'mores heated in a microwave (can't have open flames on the ship). Every cruise would have to have at least one choir director booked as a passenger. He / she would lead everyone in sing-alongs in the theater each evening, and that would be the entertainment for the evening. Those changes alone should be worth AT LEAST a 25% savings, maybe more.:D

It is not a perfect world, there are many things I would do without, but others love and the ship should have it. That being said, I'd love to see prices cut a bit so my family could afford a cruise every year. Then again, they are low prices for what you get, not my fault my income is low compared to many.

Pools are always overcrowded, so I never use them.

Lido deck too loud, crowded and drink pushers annoying, so I avoid that.

We only use the mdr once or twice in 7 day

never use the casino

hate djs

only got towel animals half the time on our last 7 day cruise

so for me, all those could be cut... but then, I might be the only one on the ship. It seems fine right now, have not seen too many cuts that affect me. Now, I have not done a ship with a big outside screen or one with a Guys burger thingy, so no comment on that yet.

I agree with big names being left out, not sure who the Lopez guy is, but I don't think Guy needs Carnivals money.

Turned 50 today and am about to pull the trigger for January 2015 cruise... might be a great day if a deal is found!!!

I don't think there is any one thing that can be cut to save 25%. Have to do with less of everything:

Why a staff captain and a ceremonial captain? Same with the engineer? Head chef on every ship?

Increase the number of 5 person cabins by sharing bathrooms!

Put cabins in the aft showroom and put all shows up front.

Charge for tenders and for screening

Move from Cushing passenger terminals to cargo terminals

Charge for extra bags

Put the buffet in the MDR and put more cabins where the buffet is.

Tie a barge to the stern and add more discounted "ocean motion" cabins.

I have never heard of a ceremonial captain or ceremonial engineer. I get the rest of the things are you being silly but I have not heard of the ceremonial people that you speak of.

The is a staff captain and staff engineer on every ship that actually run the department.... The Capt and ce that we see are to pics from dress up night

I think you are confused about what the staff caption and chief engineer are.

The 'Captain' that comes for pictures is the Master of the vessel. The operation, safety, navigation and etc of the ship fall on his shoulders. He is 100% responsible (ref Costa Concordia)

The staff captain has other responsibilities and serves as the second in command.

No confusion on my part, I do understand that the master is responsible for every thing the the staff captain does. On 95% of the vessels afloat, these responsibilities fall to the chief mate. Same in the engine room.

I have to agree with the others above who suggest getting rid of the "George Lopez", and "Guy Whatever his name is" branded stuff. Also, get rid of the NOISE created by the DJ's on Lido playing Hip Hop, Rap, and other stuff that's supposed to be music? What's up with that?

"SKY"

Yes that would be music to my ears:D

Well your posts are nonsense. When you have this many people you need a #2 man. All military units of this size have an XO. Retail stores have assisant managers. Companies have VP of divisions. There is a patern here.

If the cruise lines did not need a captain and a staff captain they would NOT have that expense.

If the Captain has to go to Miami for meetings (this happens often) and therew as no staff captain then she ship would not be able to sail.

Again, you are confused.

On my last crusie with the midnight buffet (2007) ALL the darn food got eaten. I went to take pics, had a bit, them chilled for awhile while family and friends joined me. I have a buffet fettish, I like hanging around them. Seeing food in huge quantity is very comforting to me, grew up poor and hungry. If I am MIA check some corner in the buffet, just chilling. Pointless to say I have made it to my fair share of buffets and grocery stores, with tons of pics:D I take pics of food I prepare and post them on FB.

I am willing to pay more to see certain things return and tips included.

Me too, Bless You!

So you would not want to see a combination of the duties of staff captain and master if it was part of a plan to save you 25% on your cruise fare?

Some of my other posts were worded to be over the top, but here are some practical applications?

The ocean motion cabins on a barge in tow is a not starter at first glance, but what if the shipped towed a barge to defray costs, or carried cargo in underutilized areas?

What if the buffet was in the MDR and you could get a decent meal, but have the option to order from a menu?

More cabins are a viable option in lots of underutilized redundant or non revenue generating venues - would you accept a tons to pax ratio similar to what was standard just 20 years ago?

What if more close by private islands were developed and ship could travel half the distance to go to these revenue generating venues?

No single one of these ideas would generate the 25% in question but even if I each saved just half a percent, we only need 45 more constructive ideas?
