AussieVisi2r Posted December 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Hi all, NOT CRUISE RELATED BY IMPORTANT!!! All the Emergency Services of Australia have now got the new 'App' for smart phones up and running. If you need emergency services this app will let them see your latitude and longitude and therefore get to you quicker. Brilliant for when travelling out of town and or off the beaten track. Also great when in town and don't know your exact location ie street name or intersection or in the case of people who do not know the address they are at. The app is called "Emergency+" and is free. Trust me - In both my previous jobs as an Ambulance Officer and as a Fire Fighter we had many calls to go to 'a location just past KFC on Hindmarsh' or 'about 15 minutes out of Cobar'. You can also look at the co-ordinates when calling the NRMA. This app WILL saves lives. Please put it on your phones and on the phones of your kids. I hope you never have to use it! Thanks Raina

Thanks Raina in Canada we have had a similar system for about 4 yrs. It's called"Enhanced 911" . Since all cellphones have GPS built it , a 911 call gives the co-ordinates based on the cellphone GPS. If inside a building the system using triangulation from at least tours.
Dancuboz Posted December 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Thank you very much Raina. Is it only for use in NSW? I live in Queenland but am going to check it out further to see if it can be used up here. Best wishes, Danny Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

bazzaw Posted December 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Apparently the 000 call centre can locate you easily when you use a landline -- but not when you use a mobile phone. This App is meant to help overcome that problem Barry
AussieVisi2r Posted December 26, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Yes bazzaw. Landline calls have shown 000 calls your street location for over 30 years. But they haven't been able to do this with mobile calls. Mainly because the carriers wouldn't share info But now they can find us even if we don't know exactly where we are Cheers.
