Swizzle v2.0 Posted July 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2005 I just got back online. The fire knocked out power to the entire island on Thursday, and Hamilton was mostly without power until Saturday night. So far it looks like Hamilton is up and running again but Belco warned that it may have to do 2-4 hour brownouts in residential areas to ensure that there is enough power for Hamilton. These brownouts should not affect resort resort hotels and major tourist areas like Dockyards.
luvthesea2 Posted July 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2005 We were there......we were on the Majesty docked in St. George's when it happened. They announced that the entire island was without power. It was our day that we planned on going into Hamilton on the Ferry for some shopping etc. We went anyway and it was like a ghost town!! The Ferry ride was nice but a lot of people on the ship were disappointed because they wanted to get souveniers.....we managed to get lights working in St. George's around 4 pm but only a limited number of stores opened.
