What to pack?

Dh and I are sailing Epic on Saturday - we are previous Royal Caribbean cruisers. On past cruises, I knew exactly what to pack for my dh but I' not sure on this cruise. We are only planning to do one specialty restaurant - the Tappinaki and will do Cirque one evening. I've read that my husband can wear cargo shorts in most restaurants but not in the upscale main dining room. Are the menus the same in the dining rooms? Can he wear cargo shorts and polo shirt in both or are they very strict? He would prefer not to wear dress pants if it is not necessary but I don't want to miss out on anything if we don't bring them. Thanks for the help.

Yes both main diningrooms have very similar menus. Make it easy on yourself and just go to the one that shorts are allowed, that way you don't have to be concerned about being turned away if that particular sailing is doing that.

It's hard to say how strict a sailing will be. Some people have had no issues with wearing shorts in either MDR. Friends of ours got turned away because they had shorts on the Pearl when they went to the wrong MDR one night.

Le Bistro is the only specialty restaurant that does not allow shorts. So since you don't say you are going to that one, you are safe.

Just one pair of kakies/dockers, and you're good to go........anywhere. I carry two pairs, just in case I do my usual spilling of food. Hanging in my closet at home, they are know as my "cruise pants".

For the 9 day cruise we bring 2 pair chino and 1 polo for each night. The polos are his cruise shirts LOL

Why Teppanyaki?

Just curious since there are 3 better restaurants on the ship

IMHO

I'm guessing the novelty of it. We may actually do it this time. Although we have several of these type restaurants near us, we tend to not go when home. So, why not? Should be fun and that's what vacation is all about.

From the NCL website:

What Should I Pack?

When it comes to what to wear, you can go resort casual or get decked-out and look your best - it’s your call. That’s the freedom of Freestyle Cruising. We even have special “Dress-Up or Not Night.” It’s the perfect opportunity to get your portrait taken with your family, that special someone or even with the ship’s Captain.

Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most specialty restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Cruise casual is also allowed day and night on embarkation day.

Wear smart casual if you are eating dinner in the aft main dining room (our more formal dining room) and in Le Bistro on cruises longer than five days. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it’s jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. Traditional Bermuda shorts along with long socks, loafers and a blazer are all acceptable on a Bermuda cruise.

We want you to be comfortable, but tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or specialty restaurants. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants. You may want to pack a sweater too—air conditioning can be chilly.

Since your suitcases are collected the night before we return home, don’t forget an overnight bag for prescriptions and need-to-have items.
