mickeysgal Posted January 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2014 What have you found to work best? A Venice trip pre-cruise or post-cruise? Airfare would be about the same for us; so we're debating whether to cruise first or see Venice first.
CathyCruises Posted January 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I always like to have something to look forward to after the cruise ends, so I love post-cruise adventures!
TEXEAGLE Posted January 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I feel it depends on your cruise ship schedule & your flights arrival/departure times. Our ship spent first night in Venice, so post cruise stay was easy decision. That said, I'd go post cruise anyway. Relax a day or two. Less pressure on making retun flight times. We stayed in hotel with water taxi to airport stop right in front of hotel and bellhop helped put our bags on board.
mapleleaves Posted January 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I've done both. I'd recommend getting to Venice a few days early just to get over the jet lag and flight. Plus you can run a few errands, ie get euros from the ATM, buy incidentals you might want for the cruise.

CathyCruises Posted January 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2014 been researching hotels and want to stay at one that has a water taxi door... which hotel did you stat at? Often recommended here is Locando Orseolo which does have a water taxi door. Many hotels do. We stayed out of the fray at Residenza Cannaregio Venezia which was budget-friendly and we arrived by water taxi. Not hard to find at all!
TEXEAGLE Posted January 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2014 We stayed in Hotel Savoia & Jolanda. It is on the main canal very close to St. Mark's Piazza. No bridges to cross dragging luggage a key water taxi stop right there for cruise port & airport.
Cruising89143 Posted January 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2014 We stayed two nights pre cruise in June. Loved it. We stayed at the Hotel Papadopoli. Very convenient to the Piazzale Roma with only one bridge to cross which is very important when dealing with luggage.
realnice46 Posted January 6, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 6, 2014 Good suggestions by everyone. We stayed last year pre- cruise and yes it was great to get over jet lag. On the other hand I wish we had stayed post cruise, as someone put it nice to have something to look forward to.
Jridou Posted January 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I guess you'll need to do both ;) Why don't you fly into Florence 2 days early and relax there & get over your jet lag and then take the train to Venice for your cruise. Then you can enjoy a post-cruise stay in Venice.
