Just booked the 3 speciatily dinner package on solstice and it seems that you have to go on the first night is this how it is all the time ?we normally like to just have something light the first night and be on deck for the departure

Not that It really matters its I just thought you had a choice

On most cruises, bookings the first night in specialty restaurants are very light...and if you ask, they will give you a discount on board. Also on most cruises, they have trouble filling the specialty restaurants and often offer a $45 per person meal at (eg) Murano for $30 if you just ask....or perhaps even less. While every cruise is a bit different, you likely will have more flexibility and save more money by just waiting and booking the restaurants when you get on board....waiting for them to make an offer...or asking if they would let you dine for $30 per person.

Of course there is the occasional cruise where everyone wants to eat at the specialty restaurants (less chance now with the higher prices) or you might want to eat at one restaurant on a specific special night, in which case you should book in advance. But if you're willing to take a small risk, wait to get on the ship (and cancel the "package" now).

I was looking at the 3-specialty dinner package also... But I read that "THEY SELECT THE FIRST RESTAURANT" and then you can make reservations for the other two (of your choice?) after you get on board.

Are you not able to pick the one you want the first night???

we waited until we boarded to book the package, they were selling it throughout the cruise. We ate on day 3 in Qsine and they asked when we paid the bill if we wanted to just pay for the 1 meal or make it a package - this way we did not need to book for the first night. That was Jan 2013 so it may have changed
