bones774 Posted January 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2014 Hi All, Im looking into doing an alaska cruise with wife and 3 kids will be flying out of NY area(EWR,JFK, LAG) and would like info on destination airports. Im not that fussy about cruise lines and im satisfied with all the majors, RCL, NCL and Celebrity, never cruised HAL and would like to try but no big deal. 1)Anyway is it better to fly into and out same airport for economics? 2)Is there any big advantage to Seattle or vancouver? does one offer better Itinerary? 3)Are there multiple airports in each city? 4)which is best use? 5) How about transit from airport to port?Is one better than another? 6) best transi options from airport to for for 5 people? any other info greatly appreciated. thanks

It's always more economical to fly into/out of same airport...But Alaska cruises are different..Yes a big advantage to cruising out of Vancouver vs Seattle you get to see more of Alaska..We prefer the northbound (RCI) cruises and fly into Vancouver (YVR) and end up in Seward we then take the cruise train option from there to fly out of Anchorage (ANC) an amazing train ride with beautiful scenery (just make sure if leaving on day of cruise end your flights are booked no earlier than 2:30pm from ANC..The other option is the southbound itinerary but this is not one I have done...Enjoy...we're heading to Alaska May 2014 for our third time. It is almost always to fly to and from the same airport . Open jaw (two different airports ) are usually more expensive. Seattle only round trip cruise to Alaska . Vancouver also round trip but many do Vancouver - Alaska ( 7 days each way). We personally like the 14 day round trip from Vancouver its cheaper than flying back to Vancouver from Anchorage. Nancyquilts Posted January 10, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2014 We would prefer sailing from Vancouver because most, if not all, of the ships from there sail up the east side of Vancouver Island and it is more scenic, and smoother, than going out to sea on the ones from Seattle.
