Question re deck 6 cabin on Nautica

Recently changed from a mid-ship OV cabin on deck 4 to one of the only remaining B2 balcony cabins (#6083) on deck 6 starboard about 5 cabins from the rear of the ship and above the Grand Dining Room. While I am not concerned about noise from the dining room, I had a little concern as to whether there might be any vibration issues since the engines are in the rear. Would appreciate what others experience might be with cabins in that area. I am hoping that I might improve on the location as time goes on. We are on the July 13 20 night r/t London Viking Odyssey cruise. Thanks.

I'm going to be completely frank with you. On a ship which is the size of the Nautica, you will never be completely removed from the noises and vibrations of the workings of the ship. Some places are just "better" than others.

That said, you may take some comfort from the fact that 6083 is three cabins away from 6091 which is an Owners Suite, and one of the most expensive accommodations on the ship. People paying that kind of money don't accept high levels of discomfort.

They surely don't! Nothing like the aft of the ship. :D

We just came back in December from 34 days in the aft area of deck 6 on Nautica and loved every minute of it. Yes, there is occasionally some vibration but after awhile you just become immune to it. It never effected our sleeping or enjoying our balcony.

I much prefer aft to forward on the ship. We had some really really rough seas our first night out of Barcelona on our second cruise and I will tell you, that those of us in the aft faired much better than those forward on the ship. When I say rough, we had glasses go flying off the counter in the bath, the bed moved with both my husband and I in it, the lamp went flying off the desk…you get the idea, but the other passengers had it worse.

Thanks so much for the feedback thus far. While I have no problem with motion or some vibration now and then, the one thing that would bother me is some kind of constant engine noise. When we put our head down hopefully the cabin is quiet. HVAC hum through the vents is no problem at all. That type of white noise we have become accustomed to with cruising. From what's been shared thus far, I have a sense that all will be okay.

We had one of the cabins at the aft on Nautical which was next to an owners suite and after two nights of no sleep we were ready to get off at the next port. We were lucky and the the staff moved us to the only room available that was on level 6in the middle of the ship. Perfect. I had read a few reports that there was a bit of vibration and was not worried but it was unbearable. We have been on Nautica again since and went middle of ship. We loved our cruises with Nautica

Well, we are in the very front of the ship (6000) and although there is a beautiful view, I can't take seasick meds for an eye problem I just developed. This should be really interesting. We asked for B1 so we could be midship and we did indeed get a B1 but it is the "special cabin in the front and I think the ship is sold out!!Jen:mad:

We have been mid-ship on deck 6 on Nautica multiple times. Always a wonderful experience. Our biggest concern, back in the day, was potential for late night noise from the casino bar and piano lounge. Zero problem! There was and has been on our return cabins no noise or discomfort issues (pax tend to be in bed early).

We have been in the vista suite next to yours and I would advise that you have a supply of green apples, ginger ale, candied ginger and crackers or bread sticks

in your cabin. We loved the view but could not take the motion when in even the slightest rough seas plus the noise from the lounge below. Hopefully you'll have calm seas on your cruise.

Oh, I'm sure it will be great when we have calm seas and when going slow. Now I just found out that I have to get permission from the Singapore gov't to be able to bring what they determine are controlled subtances/medicines. Just saw this in a guide book I purchased today. I have a lot of paperwork to assemble as we leave on Jan 28th. Need to email prescriptions, letters from doctors etc....Has anyone ever encountered this? I was only aware of this happening in Dubai..... Jen

Actually, the engines are not under that cabin; they are more to the center of the ship and so far down in the hull (probably 4 or 5 decks below you) that I doubt any guest could hear them. What IS under you are the propellers, and they sometimes vibrate depending on sea conditions. They almost always vibrate when in reverse (I've actually felt the ship shudder when backing out of a dock), they sometimes "cavitate" at higher speeds or rough seas and can vibrate. There are also aft thrusters used for docking maneuvers that can create a heck of a racket, but they are never used while underway.

The one place I have heard engine exhaust noise is on Regent Navigator, which seems to have some unusual harmonic "thrum" that can be piercing at the stern -- even when sitting still (it must be from one of the generating engines). It once drove me off their al fresco dining terrace. But, that ship, even after millions spent on redesigning the stern, still has a significant vibration problem at almost all times.

You should be fine on Nautica.
