saltcreekmom1 Posted January 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2014 We went cave tubing a few years ago in Belize. The water level was so low that we either drug our behinds down the gavelly river bed and scooted along or we just had to pick up our tube and carry it down the river. We are going in 2 weeks again and our kids want to go to the caves. We will only consider it if the water levels are high enough to actually float down the river this time. The WHOLE river… not just the first part. Has anybody been recently that can tell us how the water levels are? thanks
tanyaheart Posted January 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2014 I attempted the cave tubing last week. The river is raging at chest level. I lost my footing & almost drowned trying to cross. No joke! The police closed it down for the day after my incident.
galliegirlie Posted January 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2014 we were in belize on 1/8/14, and all cave tubbing excursions (private and ship based) were cancelled due to high waters and strong currents. There have been alot of rain storms lately, so the river levels are very high.

show_me_girl Posted January 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2014 We were there on January 15 this year. There was plenty of water, but not dangerous. When you start out, you have to walk across the stream/river. There is a rope to hang onto. The water level came to about mid thigh the day we were there. The water was high enough in the cave that we floated the entire way. Very calm the day we were there. We only had to raise our rear ends a couple of times. Our guide said the caves were closed earlier in the month due to high water.
