TLC371 Posted January 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2014 So I don't post here much, but I saw this on Facebook and had to come share. Our new governor just announced that Carnival will be coming back to Norfolk, starting in 2015. So excited, can't wait to cruise out of Norfolk again! gail811 Posted January 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2014 No idea if this has been posted yet; could be old news for some. Looks like Carnival will be back in Norfolk in 2015! http://hamptonroads.com/2014/01/carnival-cruise-lines-will-return-norfolk-2015
Bookworm77 Posted January 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2014 No idea if this has been posted yet; could be old news for some. Looks like Carnival will be back in Norfolk in 2015!http://hamptonroads.com/2014/01/carnival-cruise-lines-will-return-norfolk-2015 I actually think it's fairly new news as I just saw it posted on the WVEC and Pilot OnLine sites announced today. Great news! I'm sure it will be a smaller ship as the Glory was sailing at only 80% capacity the last few runs out of Norfolk this year. But I'm thrilled to know that I'll still be able to go out of Norfolk for last minute vacations.
thecruiserofships Posted January 14, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Congrats to those who have been waiting for this! It doesn't affect me, but I am glad for those that wanted to use Norfolk as a homeport!

Mandy923 Posted January 14, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I just saw this on FB too!! I'm SO happy! This will allow us to cruise more- since we won't have the expense/ extra timing of flying. We really enjoyed our 2 Glory cruises out of Norfolk. I'm really loving this new governor. For many reasons!!!
JustCruiseMe Posted January 14, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I'm thrilled. I hope they have some cruises to other places than Nassau and Freeport then we'll be on one!
Rgrgirl0307 Posted January 14, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 14, 2014 That's great! We are 4 hours from there, right now our closest port is Charleston, so it'll be nice to have another close-ish option!
beacha Posted January 14, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Yay!!!! The article mentioned Caribbean ports. Perhaps some 10 and 11 day cruises are in the future. I am so thrilled. We love sailing from Norfolk !
1metfan Posted January 14, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 14, 2014 This is great news for me. I would rather spend my cruise money on the boat instead of getting to the boat.

Rare pirate4me2 Posted January 14, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Awesome news! I think our 2015 cruise might be from there for a change of scene. :)
NCTribeFan Posted January 14, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I enjoyed sailing from Norfolk. It's even more convenient for me than Charleston. But, as with other East Coast ports (that aren't in Florida), the problem is that you can only sail so far in one week, which greatly limits the itineraries. Carnival has positioned themselves as a low-cost, family-friendly cruise line. I really doubt they'll start offering 10 or 11 night cruises just because that's what it takes to offer a somewhat interesting itinerary from the east coast! Those cruises would be way more expensive than what Carnival tends to offer. Just doesn't fit their target clients/demographic. I did sail on the only Glory to Bermuda sailing. It was nice, but was expensive, was only 6 nights, and we were only in Bermuda for 1-1/2 days, which really wasn't long enough. Now, if they were to resume sailing to Bermuda and make them week-long cruises and spent 2-1/2 days there, it would be nice!
LadyDAC Posted January 14, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 14, 2014 They are offering an 11 day Southern Caribbean from New Orleans in April so maybe.....
Cruisin Dave Posted January 14, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Maybe I can finally get my sister and brother in law to take a cruise.
cruizinisthebest Posted January 14, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Good news. Good news. This give this Jersey girl another option rather than having to fly or the one ship in NY.
Eng23 Posted January 14, 2014 #22 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Very good news for Norfolk!!! I cruised the Glory last year and it will be great to have a ship back in Norfolk. Maybe we will see 7-10 day itineraries? Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
firemanbobswife Posted January 14, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I just saw this on FB too!! I'm SO happy! This will allow us to cruise more- since we won't have the expense/ extra timing of flying. We really enjoyed our 2 Glory cruises out of Norfolk. I'm really loving this new governor. For many reasons!!! I live 15 min from the port of Norfolk and also enjoyed our 2 Glory cruises last year. But giving credit to our new Governor I think isn't warranted. I'm sure these talks were started long before the election was even held. I think it has more to do with the local government. And that's all I'm going to say about that. dmarie1623 Posted January 14, 2014 #25 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Good. Norfolk is the closest port to me after Baltimore. Nice to be able to drive just a couple of hours to sail.
