ship's excursion, taxi, or rent a car

Hi folks,

This is my first time post. As George Burns said in the movie Oh God-A test, hope I pass.

My wife and I love to cruise and I do all the research. I need help here please.

I will be on the Norwegian Gem. We hit one of my favorite ports April 9, Philipsburg/St. Maarten. I found out that there will be six ships in port the same time. My wife wants the security of a booked ship excursion. I always feel I need at least two more hours at the beach ( Orient Bay ). I lean toward renting a car but a cab is 20 bucks or so one way. Question- is there any risks in not finding a cab to go back to the ship with so many ships in port?

Can not answer directly, but you might visit the PORTS OF CALL boards and see what comes up.

 

Personally, we rarely take a ships tour. Hate to be herded like cattle, and pay extra for the that.

Taxi or renting a car is fine.

 

Our favorite is to book a private non-ship excursion.

You might ask cab driver about picking you up afterward.

 

Might charge a little more, but still less than excursion prices.
