Tommy3putts Posted January 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2014 We are sailing on the Reflection this June. The itinerary includes stops in Greece (Euro) and Turkey(Lira). We plan on having the "auto tip" included but would like to also provide "extra" cash tips as necessary to those deserving during the cruise as well as at the end of the cruise (an extra dollar or two for the bar tender for example). Question: Since we we will have three different currencies at play is it bad form or a burden on the recipient when we leave various forms of currency? For example could we use our extra lira, euro or USD for tipping purposes on board? The concern is primarily etiquette based; we don't want to be "those kind of passengers" on board. Tiggertastic Posted January 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2014 There is no right or wrong answer Firstly, you can spend Euros in Turkey although you get a better deal for your money with Lira - so you don't have to get Lira unless you really want to. In our experience the crew have been happy with euros or dollars but although some will say that the staff will be happy with anything, I personally would stick with euros or dollars A) because there is no guarantee that those staff get a day off when they are in turkey (the only place they can spend it) B) so that they don;t pay commission changing it
Phxazzcruisers Posted January 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2014 No matter where our cruise took us, we always left the extra tip in US$. They were very happy to receive, as no tip was expected as we prepaid our tips. Please also remember to mention anyone who gave you great service by name on the comment card at the end of your cruise. That is VERY important for them, as that is how they promotions and raisies. Tommy3putts Posted January 16, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted January 16, 2014 Thanks. When I go on my golf trips to Mexico I always take couple hundred in US dollars in ones and fives. It's amazing what a couple of bucks here and there will get you. So maybe that plan would work as well if not better on a cruise ship.
