Question about Cozumel

Could you please tell me if there is a beach as you dock in Cozumel near the shopping area? Or do you have to take an excursion to get to a beach? Thanks for your help.

I am providing a link to the Cozumel Port of Call forum because I honestly do not know if there is a beach near the dock or not

I found some great tips from that forum. Cozumel is one of our Ports of Call on our upcoming cruise, and based on the tips from the board and some other research we opted to book a private beach excursion. There's so much to choose from though so I highly recommend that you check out the Cozumel board.

I hope you have a great cruise!

There is a small man made 'beachy' area with loungers and hammocks but you can't swim or anything. We were just there Dec. 30.

Thank you. I will definitely check the forum. So looking forward to this port as we have never been there before.

When you exit the ship, walk down the long pier and through the top level of the shopping mall built there at the pier. Down the stairs at the far end you will find cabs that can take you where you want to go.

I recommend taking a cab (about $10 us) to Chankanaab park... Even if you do not do the dolphins or manatees, it's clean, has lockers, restrooms, pretty decent food, a beach, decent snorkeling and makes for a pretty relaxing day on Cozumel without a lot of crowds.

We found a cab at the bottom of the stairs of the shopping area. Prices to everywhere we're posted. We went to "Mr. Sanchos" for the day. One side is a la carte, the other side is $50/person, includes all food, drinks, snorkeling and kayaks. Lots of tables, shade, chairs, etc. we had a great time and would do it again. Taxi was maybe $7/person.

We also really enjoyed Playa Mia- the price isn't bad compared to many excursions and there was a lot included. The staff there was excellent as well. My only complaint is that it was a so short- we arrived about 9:30 and they called for us to go to the shuttle around 1:15. However, you could stay later and take your own cab back.

1st, Cozumel is one of the easiest, safest ports to book an independent excursion, rather than through the ship.

NCL docks right in town at Punta Langosta pier...

cozumelmap_zpse1be2215.jpg

The RCCL pier (International) and Carnival pier (Puerta Maya) are just to the south.

From the Carnival pier, south on the western side of the island, is a string of beach clubs, of varying prices and amenties to suit any beach lover.

The eastern side of the island is much less developed and natural.

The surf is much rougher (being on the oceanside of the island, versus mainland side)but some prefer the rougher, natural beaches.

Snorkeling from shore is really only decent at Chankanaab and Money Bar nearest the piers, as the shore there is rockier than the sandy beaches south of there. (if your family enjoys snorkeling)

The most popular beach clubs discussed on the Cozumel boards are Chankanaab Park, Paradise Beach Club, Playa Mia, Mr. Sanchos and Nachi Cocum.

Each is great for a different type of beach goer...(from Paradise Beach south, they all lay on the same stretch of sandy beach)

Chankanaab has dolphins swims on site, sea lion shows, and other family friendly amenities.

Paradise Beach club has a pool, nice beach and the cheapest entry fee if cost is the most important consideration.

Playa Mia is the most family friendly, with lots of kiddie pools, waterslides, etc...

Mr. Sanchos has an pay as you go side, with a smaller pool and amenities and an All Inclusive side with a bigger, nicer pool.

Nachi Cocum is an All Inclusive with a 100 person limit per day, so you will never feel packed in like you can at Paradise Beach or Mr. Sanchos on a crowded port day. Nachi has palapas spread down the beach rather than loungers in rows, with little to no room between them. (see above picture)

Nachi is more geared to people who want a quieter, relaxing beach day, like a Corona commercial type vibe. (if you want a more party atmosphere with some music, etc.. Mr. Sanchos next door fits that bill)

Our personal favorite is Nachi Cocum.

Been there 4 times and already booked for April...

The grounds are gorgeous, the pool is large and nice and the service and food is fantastic. (I've yet to make it through all 4 courses of food, in 4 trips to Nachi) And of course the beach is sooo relaxing being served all day, beachside at your own palapa.

Here is some more options that are not as much discussed.
