capp Posted January 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Greetings from the Gorgeous Getaway! Sorry to have been such a poor communicator, but we're just having too much fun to spend much time on the computer even though the internet rates are the lowest ever on a ship at .25 per minute. We figure that's only because they still only have the crew rates available, it's bound to change. Because there are only 1100 passengers onboard, things are a little different. They're rotating the dining and entertainment each night which has worked out perfectly for both the passengers and crew. Every night at dinner (Cagney's, La Cucina, Teppanyaki, and the Illusionarium so far - all very good to excellent) we've run into crew/staff/entertainers out enjoying the various restaurants and bars and I swear this is the happiest crew ever! The Illusionarium is NOT TO BE MISSED. The show is spectacular with amazing special effects and magic. My dinner was perfectly cooked, the beef was an astounding medium rare, tender, and juicy. My dinner companions (my son and time2cruise1) not as perfect, but not horrific either, so I think it's hit-or-miss. Just like any land based banquet style service. My only thought on the venue is that it is a teeny bit on the crowded side and I'm wondering if it might get a little hot in there on a Caribbean cruise, but then again they'll be cranking the AC. Our weather has been a lot better than I imagined. The Captain (he's very visible, out and about all the time, greeting everyone) has taken us on a more southerly route and right now we're just northwest of the Azores and it's currently 60.6*F with fog.....but you can see peeks of the blue sky above and if it's like yesterday the fog will burn off. At 10:30am yesterday the pool deck was in full swing with swimmers, sliders, and people enjoying the ropes course, mini golf and other excitement. Who says the Northern Atlantic in January can't be fun? Not me! We did have a moderately rough first few 48 hours (maybe 20-25 ft. seas), but I consider that kind of fun.😀 I think some of our fellow passengers didn't enjoy it as much as I did, because last night this ship CAME ALIVE. Every bar was packed (lots of crew out last night too), the casino was hopping, and a good time was being had in every venue I saw. All in all, the past 4 days have exceeded my expectations in every way. This is one magnificent ship, and YES! It really DOES have "that new ship smell"! Capp- sounds great so far, and I'll bet you're happy NOT to be in 15 degree weather like Chicago has been having the last 30 days ( my SIL lives there..)...do you have a balcony? If so, how small is it? Also, tell us about: The Waterfront, O'Sheehan's, and the Spice H20 adult area in the back- some say since it has no pool, no hot tub, it's a wasted area other than being away from the noisier main pool area...DW & I are considering the Getaway next year in sunny Fla., where we live....keep on cruisin'!! Big Al Hi Big Al, I was just up at Spice H20 and it does indeed have 2 hot tubs and a big waterfall for cooling off. I wouldn't ever call it a wast of space, it's lovely! I'm in an S6 aft suite so I have a giant balcony, and my son is next door in an aft balcony also with a huge balcony. We're having a CC Cabin Crawl this afternoon, so I'll let you know about the regular balcony sizes.

calmac Posted January 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2014 The standard balconies are the same as on the Breakaway - just big enough for 2 chairs and a mini table.
