Another Breakaway 2 nighter mini review with CAS

Hi Everyone,

My husband, 2 daughters (ages 9 and 12) and I sailed on the Breakaway 2 nighter on 1/17/2014. My husband and I are Platinum Latitudes. I have seen some reviews already about the weekend trip and I agree with them all. I want to add some specific information about our stateroom and the Casino.

This was our first time on the Breakaway, but we do have a longer cruise on the Breakaway scheduled for Spring Break this April.

Our Stateroom: 13902 – S-4 Aft Penthouse: The Room itself is beautiful. The master bedroom and master bathroom are really nice and were exactly what we were expecting. The master bed was very comfy. Tons of storage, more than any other room I have ever seen. The living room area was a bit tight with too much furniture that seemed to cram you in. To get to the balcony, you need to walk around chairs and coffee table. When the bed is open, you will definitely bump into the coffee table which is an unnecessary piece of furniture in my opinion.

The sofa bed is the worst part of the room. It was meant for my children, but neither of them would sleep on it the second night, so they slept in the master bed with dad and I slept on the sofa bed the second night. I asked the room steward for a foam topper and he acted as if he didn’t understand me, but then he returned with a thick sheet to lay on top of it. Not what I was expecting. No exaggeration, this sofa bed is like sleeping on a flat rock. I like a firm mattress, but there is no give and take on this rock. If you can sleep comfortably on the floor, then you should be ok. The second bathroom is super small and has a shower stall. The kids used the bathtub, not that small shower stall.

The balcony was huge with 2 lounge chairs, a table and 6 chairs. That is the highlight of the room, although you need to wear shoes outside because both mornings, there was black soot all over the balcony including the cushions on the lounge chairs.

The Casino: We were guests of CAS. I am Golden level and my husband is Hot. We did not have our drink/casino cards in the room when we arrived, so I went down to the Casino before sailaway and I was told it is supposed to be there. It arrived at 7pm in the room. Not a big deal. We were both given our drink cards and we had access to the Spa both days. There is a great variety of machines and more tables than I have ever seen on a cruise ship.

I did not have much luck on the machines. Never hit anything higher than $500.00, but that is the risk you take. I went to the service counter to check my points to see how close I was to VIP and I only needed about 250 more points, so I decided I needed to lose more money to make VIP.

I made VIP easily and asked them about the additional perks that come with VIP for my April cruise, specifically the transportation. I was told that VIP does not get transportation, only VIP Plus (100,000 points). Huh?? She told me it was a new restriction. The website is unclear and does not state that…unless I am looking in the wrong spot.

If I weren’t staying in a suite, I would not have access to the Haven restaurant with VIP casino level.

One more gripe: There was someone who was actively playing 2 specific slot machines. Not a problem, that is everyone’s right. I overheard her telling a slot attendant that she needed to go get something to eat, but doesn’t want to leave her main machine. She asked the slot attendant if he would put the machine out of service when she went to eat. He said no I can’t do that. Fast forward 20 minutes later, the woman was gone from the machine (I assume for dinner) and the machine was OUT OF SERVICE. When she returned, the machine was magically turned back on for her. I have never seen a casino do that. Her tier level was also golden.

There were many drink servers and they were very attentive. I think the casino was well set up and look forward to beating the casino in April!

FYI- The concierge is Adrian Bica and the Assistant Concierge is Kadek. We have sailed with them both in the past and they are both tip notch.

Any questions feel free to ask. :):):)
