denamo Posted January 21, 2014 #27 Share Posted January 21, 2014 Just off the Legend and totally enjoyed being able to watch a football play off game on a gorgeous afternoon outside. Fun hearing fans responses to their team's performance. We ate lunch at Izumi's during the belly flop competition and it was kind of fun seeing the dives from the big screen. We were not bothered by the sound any time we were there. Honestly, did not observe very many paying attention to the screen when they were out by the pool. If there was a movie on in the afternoon, it was not overpowering. All of this being said, the large on deck screen, and how some feel it an intrusion, is probably a personal preference like the food and dining venues on board. Will probably need to draw your own conclusions once on board.
debbs0723 Posted January 21, 2014 #28 Share Posted January 21, 2014 What has been the experience on Allure? Is there a pool you can go to get away from them besides the Solarium? I love TV but on a cruise I want to hear the music, watch the ocean and watch the other cruise activities. I don't mind it being on, I just don't want to have to hear it from say and upper deck over the pool. I might throw myself overboard if I have to hear football all day. Don't flame me please:D I hate football noise on a TV. The commentators are going to be the end of me.

poncho1973 Posted January 21, 2014 #32 Share Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) Love them. It's the only way my wife got me on a cruise during football season. I knew that our TNF game (sidebar: they need to kill TNF, it stinks for fans and players) was going to be broadcast on the ship. We were docked next to a Carnival ship in Nassau and their tv was louder than ours and we were sitting right in front of the pool. It was also like 3-5 decks lower than our ship! GateGuardian Posted January 21, 2014 #35 Share Posted January 21, 2014 I was on the Brilliance of the Seas; my cabin was on the 9th deck and I could hear the music coming from large screen. It goes on until around 11pm, so be warned if you are an early sleeper and have a cabin close the screen. I didn't mind it, but i was starting to get a bit tiring listening to Alicia Keys all night. On the Allure, there are two large screens in the Aquatheater which is nowhere near the pools. So you can stay far away from the screens if you want. But keep in mind that the music might be loud anyways.
dplusd Posted January 21, 2014 #37 Share Posted January 21, 2014 I like the big screen on Princess. Not so much during the day, but really enjoy a movie or two under the stars. They have blankets available bring around popcorn. Keeps me out of the casino for awhile! Looking forward to see how RCL does it when I sail the Navigator later this year. Ghengis Klown Posted January 28, 2014 Author #38 Share Posted January 28, 2014 If anyone was wondering (i was) the size of the screen, it's 220-square feet ( from RCI website)
negc Posted January 28, 2014 #39 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Pleasantly surprised by the big screens so far. The volume level during the day has been low enough not to bother us. Watching a football game on Liberty's big screen on Thanksgiving night (2012) was a great experience. I totally agree. Used with discretion and restraint, as RCI apparently does, but other lines do not, it is a great addition to the ships that have them. We watched the final two games of the World Series on deck on Brilliance of the Seas and it was a wonderful time (especially since our Red Sox emerged victorious).:)
OHCruisin Posted January 28, 2014 #40 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I'm an early riser and walk on deck, usually before 6:00 a.m. They have the screen playing "good morning" in all sorts of languages against a nature background, with no volume. I've read that other lines blare CNN or FOX News early in the morning. That would be annoying. I've never found it to be intrusive on RCI. Easy to ignore. DrD Posted January 28, 2014 #41 Share Posted January 28, 2014 If anyone was wondering (i was) the size of the screen, it's 220-square feet ( from RCI website) So assuming it's a standard widescreen 16:9 ratio, that gives us a width of 19.8 feet and height of 11.2 feet and diagonal (usual measure of size of TV) of 22.75 feet. That's a big TV! (see HS math does come in useful sometimes.)
Bigtex1622 Posted January 28, 2014 #42 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Do they still have live bands playing by the pool some of the times???
