Blake Hotel NOLA

I m cruising out of New Orleans in July and am looking at hotels for a pre-cruise, has anyone stayed at the Blake Hotel, it seems to be in the center of everything and close to port ?

The last time I was in New Orleans, we stayed at The Drury Inn which is on the corner of Poydras & Carondolet, one block from where you're looking.

 

I didn't like being that far away from Bourbon Street and didn't like walking back at night. I was stepping over drunks passed out on the sidewalk on Canal Street when we walked back. That was in October.

 

This time we're staying on Royal Street at the Wyndham. Royal Street is one block over from Bourbon, so it is a very short walk. Close to restaurants too.

Is Bourbon St. the heart of the action in NOLA? Never been before, staying in September for a few days pre and a few days post cruise. Flying in from Ireland. Trying to get a feel for best hotels etc.

Yes, Bourbon Street is where all the action is as far as bars , shops, and restaurants. Then Royal, Chartres, Decatur and St. Peter Streets have lots of shopping, The French Market, Jackson Square.

 

Harrah's Casino is on Poydras, the Aquarium is on Canal, Mardi Gras World is at the Port. I have walked from Harrah's to the French Market and over to Bourbon Street, through Jackson Square and back to the Drury Inn. It's quite a hike!!

 

You have to be a little careful walking after dark, the French Quarter can get pretty seedy real fast if you get off on side streets, especially going toward Rampart Street. That's why I chose the hotel on Royal Street. I would have liked to book the Royal Sonesta but the hotel is completely booked for October.

Yea I think I'll be doing the same. I am assuming it'l be easy enough to get shuttles/taxis from the airport to the hotel, and taxi from the hotel to the cruise terminal?

I usually take the shuttle from the airport to the hotel and from the port back to the airport. I think it's $38 round trip. There is a kiosk at the airport by baggage claim.

 

Taxi's will be over $30 from the airport to the hotel.

The Place d' Armes hotel is very close to Jackson Square and Cafe du Monde and a short walk to Bourbon St. The rates are very reasonable for the location. It is a "historical" building so if "old" is not your thing....it's not for you.

We just returned from our cruise from NOLA and we stayed at Staybridge Suites. Everything was easily accessible via walking and/or streetcar (which was only $3 pp for an all-day pass). Staying on Canal or Bourbon St is definitely in te heart of all the "action" AKA noise. We found it safe walking from bourbon and canal to our hotel quite safe and only being a 5-10 minute walk was great. It was nice having the kitchen (& fridge) in the suite since we were there for 2 days prior to the cruise.

Make sure you do the math! Shuttle for two people is $76 plus tip. Taxi for two is $33 for two each way or $66 plus tip. With a cab, you don't make extra stops or wait for other passengers as you do with the shuttle. We find cabs are the quickest, cheapest and best way to go.

Yea a couple days after I posted that someone mentioned to me the flat rate for the cab. I am so going for that. No other people traveling with me, no extra stops, cheaper! Its a no brainer.

 

I booked to stay on Canal St. in the DoubleTree by Hilton. :)
