Shallow water snorkeling

My girlfriend doesn't swim. She is okay with going in the ocean as long as she is able to stand (she is 5'1" so that's not very deep).

I would love to do an excursion that involves snorkeling. Anyone know of an excursion in Freeport where there is "beach" snorkeling or trips that would take you to shallow water? Also, would they normally provide a life vest if needed?

My husband and I took our first cruise in Sept 2013. Also our first time ever snorkeling. We took a cab to paradise Cove. The cab was 16 dollars each way (for both) I can't remember the cost of Paradise cove, but it was cheap for what you got. They have a short safety lesson, you can rent chairs, floatation belts (great for non or weak swimmers) and snorkeling gear. The reef it a pretty good swim (float) to get to, but we saw fish, even a sting ray, in the shallower water (the grass area)

The deeper water out by the reef and floats had tons of beautiful fish, we even saw a couple barracudas. *tip* take a box of cheerios off the ship, the fish will swarm like crazy.

The beach are was family owned, they weren't at all pushy like a lot of the other stops we made. There is a little shop and a couple of small places to eat/drink.

The beach or gorgeous, I can't stress that enough.

I would definitely not suggest a non swimmer get all the way out to the reef, but there is plenty to see closer to shore. - Definitely rent the yellow float belt.

You can see how far the reef is, and the good fish are on the back side

Let me add that there is really nothing in freeport that you can just walk to. You can also snorkel in Nassau, we went to the public beach (there is a jut of concrete, like a bridge/catwalk if you get off the ship head right (pass mcdonalds) and a beach there that you can use, also if you go down a little farther- you will see a grassy open area and another beach behind that, this is much less crowded. (pass junkanoo and keep heading away from ships.) Sorry, i didn't remember the name of the beach area. There was only 3 or 4 other people there when we went but Junkanoo, where the little brightly colored shops are closer to mcdonalds, it was packed.

How deep is it swimming all the way out to the reef?

Once you are at the reef, how deep do you think it is?
