We have booked with RCI to go on our fifth cruise on the 6th April and are looking forward to it. The only thing that is putting a downer on things is that this time RCI has decided to take us on an indirect flight from Heathrow to JFK and with only one hour and forty minutes to catch our following plane to Miami. This is the first time that we have to change plane and would have preferred to have a direct flight. Is one hour forty enough time to go through US immigration and catch an internal flight? Help! any advice is welcome.:(

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

I would also ask this question in the Cruise Air forum:

There are some very knowledgeable people who frequent that forum who can probably tell you exactly what to expect with your connection.

Contact RCCL direct and get an AA flight, AA57 leaves at a reasonable time and arrives in Miami just after 3

There. Is no need to extend your travel time.

If you have problems I would suggest your email customer services in the states

I would not do it. Immigration in JFK is terrible. You also have to check in your luggage again after customs and change of terminal. You need minimum 2 - 2,5 hours. We have done flight changes in NY many times, and there are always delays.

When we fly from Manchester we always allow ourselves at least 2.5 - 3 hours. You will have to go through customs not just through immigration as JFK is your first entry into USA.

Try and get it changed. If you should miss your RCI booked connection they are responsible for getting you to the ship by rearranging your flight but you don't need the stress before you leave the UK.

Thank you for your advice everybody. We called RCI and were pleasantly surprised by their understanding and they now have routed us via Chicago with 3.30 hours transit time. We will definitely carry on cruising with them.:)

Wonderful news. We have transited through Chicago many times.

Are you flying AA?. Bit of good news , beer and wine is free with AA throughout the flight even in the cheap seats:).

We last flew with them in October 13.
