bunnyfoofoo82 Posted January 27, 2014 #102 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I'm looking forward to living vicariously through this thread. I've only sailed the Pride but she had me hooked on cruising, even in January. Safe travels through the Bay!
Spiralshell Posted January 27, 2014 #103 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I'm glad to hear that Muster was indoors. I had wondered about that and thought we might need to plan for warm clothes if we were going to have to stand out on deck in the cold for so long! Maybe it will be warmer by March 16th but if it is not, glad to hear we may be inside! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

dmarie1623 Posted January 27, 2014 #107 Share Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Hello everyone . . . Carnival Pride left the pier slowly at 6PM. A few last minute passengers boarded at about 5PM, and we were told that there was a service disruption from potable water delivery. . . The Captain for this sailing is Captain Francesco Borgogna, and the Cruise Director is Kirk Benning. We have already passed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge at about 730PM but we won’t be in the Ocean until early morning. It will take us many hours to navigate down the Bay, and we will drop off the Pilot by about 5AM. During Breakfast tomorrow we will be in the Atlantic Ocean. I expect it to still be extremely cold, each hour will bring us to some warmer temperatures. . .There were no sail away activities outside. (Even the Muster Drill was held inside) It is very cold out now, and the seas are still calm as we will be in the Bay all night, but tomorrow is a coin toss. I have sailed past Cape Hatteras many times, and sometimes it is very calm while on many occasions the seas have been very rough. My cabin is up on Deck 8 (STB/ FWD), and my home for the week is appointed nicely. There is plenty of room (Balcony 8E) and I should sleep like a baby tonight. The Welcome Aboard Show is later tonight, and I will be in attendance . . . right after I check out the Players Club Casino. . . Here are a few pics from Sailaway. . . Thanks for tuning in. More pics tomorrow. . . Radio Muster drill was in the Taj Mahal Theater, but we had to line up on the Promenade deck to enter. I'm glad that you all had your muster inside, we were on the previous sailing and ours was outside. DH and I had coats, but a lot of people didn't and they were freezing. They did the drill quickly though. Edited January 27, 2014 by dmarie1623

Rare Radio Posted January 27, 2014 Author #112 Share Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Good Morning and welcome to DAY 2 of “LIVE” from Carnival Pride. I didn’t make it through the Welcome Aboard Show last night. I stayed for about 30, but I was really beat and had to call it a night. I went back to the Cabin and turned on the news. . . I was out like a light in just a few moments. There was no noise that I could hear from the decks above. . .No scraping, dragging of chairs or anything. I slept like a baby. It was a while before I was able to unpack my luggage last night. It seems that the x-ray machine at the port found something unusual. When I went down to retrieve my luggage, I was asked if I had any alcohol or maybe an iron packed in my bag. I assured them that I couldn’t think of anything that may have caused a concern. . . When I unlocked my bag, the attendant scuffed through and wasn’t able to find anything. Then he found it. . .There it was. . .The obscure item that caused the noontime commandos to mark my bag with a “High Alert” sticker. . . I packed a tripod. Yes, a 72” Zeikos Tripod that was in the bottom of my luggage. Whew . . . case closed. We are very sorry sir . . . “We will have someone take your bag directly to your cabin” This morning I woke up very early “Who would have thought?” I was very happy to see that Players Club Casino opens at 7AM . . . 7AM? Wow . . . How ingenious. . . . it was even better when I saw that several passengers were already hitting the slots. It makes sense though. . .it doesn’t take too many casino staff to man the machines. The slots have not been bad, but have not been good either. I need to visit a few more times before I can make a decision on how much of a “Radio Friendly” casino that is on Carnival Pride. Today will be a relaxing day for me, but I need to go to the Port Shopping talk this morning in the Taj Mahal Lounge. I also plan to see the Cooking demonstration up in the Steakhouse on Deck 10. The chefs will show how they make some of the delicious items that are onboard this week. The pools and spas will be open all day, but I don’t think there will be many passengers up there today. Some crew members suggested that they didn’t think many passengers at all would be in the pools until Wednesday in Port Canaveral. Here are a few pics from last night and this morning. . . Thanks for all of the nice comments, and thanks for tuning in. More pics later. . . Radio The Mermaid’s Grille was very quiet this morning. . . An oasis appears before me. . . There are not many passengers up this early. Players Club Casino beckon's me. . . At least we will see some sun today. Our current position. . . . leaski Posted January 27, 2014 #118 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Loving this 'live' review! Thanks for the info on how platinum cruisers are handled in Baltimore. We were just talking about that a few days ago. Can't wait to get on board!! Can you tell me if they still have the chicken strips at the Grill? I have heard they do, and also that they don't anymore. Thanks! :)
Stella777 Posted January 27, 2014 #119 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I'm following along on your "live" cruise report of the Pride and anything else you might do a review on as your reports are interesting and informative at the same time, as well as humorous:D. I was on the Pride in 2012 on the same itinerary and want to get your perspective on it. I am also pleased that you will be on the Quantum before I get on which is not until March 2015. I will be very interested as to your take on the new ship and am hoping that you will do a live report on the Quantum as well.

Rare Radio Posted January 27, 2014 Author #123 Share Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Hello everyone. I am happy to report that today has been a very sunny day. The temperatures seemed to have warmed a bit, but maybe it just seems that way because of the direct sunlight. All the pools are open, but it seems that the only guests using the pools are kids. I have heard a lot of music from the DJ booths on decks 2 and 9, but aside from the Carnival Pride Show Band in the main theater, I haven’t heard any live music. Tonight is Elegant Night and the Captain will be available for photos for those who wish to do so. I am looking forward to a nice Lobster dinner in the Normandie Dining Room. I am dining with several Cruise Critic friends tonight. Our voyage through the Gulf Stream has been nominal. The Captain suggested we are having 6-8 foot seas; however, Carnival Pride has been easing through the seas and I have not felt much pitching or rolling. Two Navy or maybe Air Force planes flew across our bow doing maneuvers. I assume they were from a local Navy or Air Force base. We are currently about 470nm from Port Canaveral and our speed is 12 knots. Here are a few pics from today. More pics tonight. Radio The Port and Shopping talk featured our CD, Kirk A lot of time was spent on the Excursions that were being offered in our 3 Ports David’s Steakhouse featured a team of Chefs for a cooking demonstration This afternoon has been very sunny. . . The pool looks very inviting, but I think I will wait for warmer weather. . . Pools are never too cold for kids. . . MoMo07 Posted January 27, 2014 #125 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I am noticing a lot of jeans, sweatshirts, sweaters, and heavier winter-type of clothing on the passengers in your pictures. This is really good to know.... it is difficult to imagine how to pack for a cruise that begins in wintery Baltimore and ends in the warm Bahamas.
