Concerts At Sea-beginning of paying for Entertainment

You are correct for Nassau. But Nassau is not the only port this is happening with.

Just as concert fans will choose to book an itinerary because of the concert, gamblers can choose to NOT book that itinerary. They literally have hundreds of other choices that won't include a late stay in port and interfere with their donations to Carnival and God bless them for that. Their donations helps keep my cruise fares low.

And for the record, the Ecstasy stays in port in Cozumel until 10:00 PM anyway, so we're talking about another 3 hours until 1:00 AM.

On the short cruises there are free shows/events every night in the main show room. Some are production shows, some are passenger participation shows. There is also the casino that normally is open every evening but now won't be due to being in the port so late. That is how people can say they are removing entertainment.

Passenger participation shows?

Hmmm...Which would I rather see, the same old, same old, campy newlywed game I've seen literally a dozen times with different couples saying the same thing or some really bad singing from passenger pretending to be Garth Brooks OR a live concert with Martina McBride for well below market ticket price?

Hmmm...Such a conundrum....Gee, that's such a tough choice.

I wonder which show would fill cabins?

I agree with choosing another cruise that doesn't have the concert. But what about the ones who booked before the cruise became a concert one. Those are the people, I think, have a valid complaint.

Is the Ecstasy the only Cozumel ship the has the concert? Most of the cruises I have been on left Cozumel early evening.

Lots would rather see newlywed game or the legends show or perhaps the Quest show.

Just because you prefer Martina McBride doesn't me others are wrong in their preferences.

I have never said I am against this new idea. I am just pointing out that other's have a valid complaint.

Those folks are few and far between and still have time to cancel without penalty and book something else.

You can't worry about a possible minor inconvenience to maybe a couple dozen people per ship over the entire fleet. That's simply an insignificant objection.

"Lots of people?" Please define "lots of people."

Is "lots of people" more than a dozen?

Which group of people would be larger...Folks who want to see a headliner concert or the Newlywed Game?

Some of these were announced after final payment. Some people could have Early Saver. Others already have airfare. Others have vacation days set and now can't change them. These people have a valid complaint.

Now hopefully in the future when carnival posts new cruises they will already be set as either a concert one or not. But I don't think this will happen since carnival has cruises posted out into 2015 but not any concerts list then.

Lots of people is lots of people. I said lots because I have no statistics on how many. Just like you have no statistics. I know I personally would rather see the newlywed game over most of the currently scheduled guests. And lots of people on this discussion agree with me.

Is anybody upset or even caring that Carnival might be replacing the Newlywed Game as the big show on concert nights???

That game needs to be retired anyway. It was stale before, it became even MORE stale when they made it the big show at the main theater! Talk about insulting passengers with third class entertainment.

I think the people arguing this new program are really grasping for something to complain about....

It's not uncommon for ships to be in Nassau and Cozumel until midnight. In fact, there are usually complaints about ships leaving too early so people can't enjoy the night life (the greedy ship just wants to go slow to save fuel and make us spend money on board). The "professional" entertainment used to be the Mexican Folklore show.... ummmmm.... it wasn't that good. And that was better than the game shows.....

Also, it's not uncommon for the main theater to have a show cancelled due to rough seas (magic, dancing, etc) or a fly-on missing a flight.

If you must gamble in those hours, Atlantis is a short distance away.... Sorry, you can't gamble for a few extra hours Cozumel.... go enjoy the many bars or see a movie (Mexican movie theaters have the best carmel corn).. As a scuba diver, I would be thrilled as I would be able to now do a night dive in Cozumel (amazing seeing the marine life at night) Also, for the gamblers, there is a sports book in town when you can go bet whatever game is on and they also have simulcast horse racing. So there are gambling options for those who must do it every evening.

Saying that the shops are closed for that evening and indicating this is a problem is the biggest joke on these threads... The shops are open more than enough during the cruise and you're not going to miss out on some Tuesday night special.... They will still sell the same perfume, watches and booze (that you can't use until you get off the ship) the rest of the trip....

I think this is the first positive step they have taken in a long while....

That's not true. We are still more than 60 days out from the first concert cruise.

Again, we are talking about maybe a handful of people and Carnival will work with them. It's simply an insignificant argument.

If this was something that Carnival will add to a great cruise line I would find no problem in paying a surcharge. But one most remember, Carnival has gutted their Broadway Type Shows, in additon to a serious downgrade in dining in the MDR. This is another indication that Carnival's attempt to be the cheapest cruise line in down is resulting, not only in a downgrade of services, but an absence of them making a decent profit. In short, Carnival's new path is not working.

While some people may not like this, in reality 99.999% of them are not even effected, so their opposition is a moot point.

Some people will be locked in for various reasons yes, but nobody is past final payment date. Unless you have a different schedule than I do.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. Carnival is supplying world class, headline entertainment for a nominal fee compared to the current market price while you and others say it's a step backwards.

I've seen all the 3rd class, so called Broadway shows 3 and 4 times each and I'm ready for some real original entertainment.

Just in case all you naysayers are saying all the artists are has beens. The same Chicago group performed at the Grammys on Sunday night and they sounded just as good as before. Washed up....NOT!!!!

Chicago is in a different stratosphere than some of the names that I saw. And JFTR, Robin Thicke really screwed up their songs. It was despicable.

Which artists on that list do you think are washed up then ? Were they not all among the best in their time ?

The only people that let it bother them are the " world revolves around me " people,

The people who can't see that some, unlike themselves, might not like the change are the "world revolves around me" people.

Some will like the change, some will not like the change, and some couldn't care less either way.

No not at all, most people, myself included, understand not everyone will like this change. There is nothing CCL can change that will please 100% of the people. It's the people who don't like this change, or any change you want to pick from, so think CCL should not make that change. Those are the " WRAM " people. I don't like every thing CCL does, but I don't think they change or not change something because I don't like it.

Glad you are thrilled for the change. You have that right. Just like those that are not thrilled have that right. Neither group is better then the other.

As far as sports book. That is not the same as table games or slots.
