How does a slot tournament work?

I've read a couple of posts that you pay a fee and get into a group until it is narrowed down by points. I also understand that you just hit the button like crazy.... do you stop in between pressing the button to see what the machine lands on? Just need clarification; sounds like fun.

I do them all the time. You just hit the spin the button like crazy.... you can easily see the points add up as you are playing. They usually have 2 or 3 rounds of 7-10 people. They are alot of fun. I have done 3, but never made it past the 1st round:mad:....

How much $ is it to enter?

Costs $25 to enter. No skill needed other than hitting the spin button over and over until time runs out. It is a lot of fun. Once you reach Platinum status with Carnival, you get buy one get one free tournament entry. You may gift the second entry to someone else, use it yourself in a subsequent round if you don't get your name on the board the first time, or on 7 day cruises they sometimes have 2 slot tournaments on sea days so you could use the second one for the second slot tournament if there is one.

Last time we played it was $20 to enter. Might have gone up to $25 by now.

It is ALL LUCK. No skill other than hitting a button continuously and cheering your head off!

All depends on the demand, but I have seen 10-15 rounds of 8-10 people per round. They are definitely making a killing on it.

But hey, if you win, you put $500 in your pocket!

Not sure if this is on all of the ships, but seems to be new....the highest qualifying score (#1 going into the finals) also gets $100! My boyfriend had the highest score and even though he didnt win the final, he still got $100. This was on the Breeze a few weeks ago.

Slot tourneys are all skill. I have a special way of pushing the button and usually win. Thinking of turning pro.

Same here! For me, it's all in the wrist though I'll never give away the exact technique. It's nice to know you're going to win going in.

Wow, I hope we're never on the same cruise!

Actually, hitting the button like crazy really doesn't affect the outcome or your score. The machine won't stop spinning sooner nor will it start sooner, but it's the craziness of the game that everyone, including myself, has punched the spin button silly. Yelling at the machine is also infectious and ineffective.

I've probably played in 8 slot tourneys, all for free when it was a previous platinum benefit. I have 3 tee shirts as a result, never the grand prize of $500.

Hmm, I did not realize that. They must be set up differently. The casino slot machines here and in other places I've played allow you to hit the button to stop the reels quicker. It does not change the outcome of the play, ie when you stop it doesn't change whether you are going to win or not, though it would make it quicker to play another round (I did a project in college on slot machines, used to work in a casino). The VLTs (video lottery terminals) in my province are not allowed to have that feature though. You cannot stop the reels.

On the Sunshine, the slot tournament was done on machines that you can't stop...never understood why people hit the button like crazy when you can't spin it again till it stops...other than for just the fun of it!

Interesting. So is it just $25 or $25 plus additional money that you have to feed into the machine.?And does that $25 get you in for the entire tourney or do you have to pay for each round if you keep going?

Once you pay the entrance fee, you don't have to put any money into the machine. They just unlock them for the tournament.

My son came in 2nd on a tournament on the Pride a couple of years ago, and I won the 2nd tournament that cruise.

It is all luck, I hit the button like mad for a bit then get in the rhythm of the music they are playing.. just don't let the wheel sit still too long.
