sueasselstine Posted January 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We're planning our next cruise for Oct 2014 to the W Carib, and I can't decide between the Glory or the Conquest. We were on the Liberty at the beginning of January, and it was beautiful! The Glory and Conquest have similar itineraries, so that's not a deciding factor....which do you all prefer????? Thanks! NCTribeFan Posted January 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2014 All three are basically the same ship - Conquest class. Conquest herself does NOT have a Serenity Deck, while Glory does. Other than that, not much to differentiate any of them. Liked them both (and I'm not a fan of the larger ships; just don't like Carnival's ship designs). firemanbobswife Posted January 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Glory. Her decor is darker and I always joke that she is the "ugly ship", but I had so much more fun on my 2 5 day Glory cruises in May and October 2013 than I did on my January 2014 cruise on Conquest. The overall atmosphere was much better on Glory. I know staff changes around, but for some reason it just felt more like home to me. Plus, as stated, it has the Serenity Deck which I missed on Conquest. I have been on both ships twice and prefer Glory.
PC Cruisin Posted January 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I was just on the Conquest a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful ship. I did miss the Serenity Deck. My review on the cruise is in my signature if you would like to read more about it ;)
champagne123 Posted January 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Have not been on the Conquest, so I cannot give my opinion on it, but we LOVED the Glory....and that was BEFORE the upgrades :):):) that it has now..
lovestocruise19 Posted January 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I've been on both Conquest and Glory. The biggest difference is lack of Serenity on the Conquest, however, when I was on the Glory I didn't end up going to Serenity because it was cold (Canadian cruise) and we had the kids with us. Another big difference right now is that Glory has the new menus in the MDR (American Table and Feast) and Conquest doesn't. As a matter of fact, I just had my last ever bowl of strawberry bisque on my recent Conquest cruise. :( Feel free to take a look at both my Conquest and Glory reviews (links in my signature) and see which decor you prefer. sueasselstine Posted January 30, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Thanks, everyone!!! I saw a few pics of the Glory, and it did look sort of "ugly" to me! Not once have we ever used the serenity deck (if we want quiet time, we just use our balcony)), so I don't think we'll miss it...I think I'm leaning towards the Conquest based on decor alone....makes me feel like a superficial jerk LOL. firemanbobswife Posted January 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Thanks, everyone!!! I will say that the Conquest had areas that smelled like smoke - stairways, mostly, where there isn't any smoking allowed. The Monet dining room smelled musty. IMHO the Glory may be uglier, but she was in overall better shape. I noticed railings on Conquest that needed to be varnished, tiles around the elevators that needed to be replaced. Plus, I didn't get food poisoning on Glory like I did this last time on Conquest :( I realize that all ships need to be kept up with constantly, but it seemed like the Crew took more pride in the Glory, and, therefore, she was better maintained. It may seem like I'm being superficial, but I can only offer my experiences. Either way you will have a great time. But I wouldn't go based on decor alone. I would still choose Glory :D
NCTribeFan Posted January 31, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I don't think Glory is ugly at all. At least not compared to many Carnival ships (hey, I sail Fantasy often - now THAT is an UGLY ship!). The two casino hostesses on Conquest in November were fantastic. They were simply a delight and really made a difference in my cruise. I'm no high roller (me on my penny slot machines), either, so it's not like they were being nice to get me to spend more time there and waste more money. I'm a 61-year-old woman, so they weren't flirting, either! :p But, yes, I felt that both times I sailed Glory that she just had a "good vibe" to her. Hard to describe, but some ships have it and some don't. I had poor MDR service and even poor service in the steakhouse on Conquest. Food was excellent in the steakhouse but was just mediocre in the MDR. I believe this is simply bad luck, though. Both my Glory cruises were pre-2.0; the 1st was even pre-Serenity Deck. I'd sail either one again without hesitation.
bride123105 Posted February 1, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Both times I went on Conquest-class ships I had terrible boarding experiences, so I would pick neither!
Gingee Posted February 1, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2014 We have been on both ships and I got lost on both of them:) Honestly the décor doesn't matter to me. I would say either one.
305diva Posted February 1, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2014 I haven't sailed on either ship. Last week, my girls and I had the same dilemma. We ended up booking the Conquest. I really want to visit Half Moon Cay.
HUBison2008 Posted February 1, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) Haven't been on Conquest, only been on Glory. She was our first ship. We sailed her after she got the upgrades. Would sail her again in a heart beat! Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app Edited February 1, 2014 by HUBison2008
sueasselstine Posted February 2, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Thanks again, everyone! Our plans have changed due to scheduling time off work, so the only choice we have now is to go back on the Liberty (we were just on her last month!) I'm not complaining at all, we didn't have one bad experience on her...I guess I was just excited to try a new ship. Oh well, a cruise is a cruise, and I'm PUMPED!
