Pixie Dust II Posted July 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2005 We did one Disney cruise in February and Castaway Cay had very cold water and the sand was even cold. Also, there were red sand fleas! It was miserable. On this cruise we had two visits to Castaway Cay and this was the first visit--on the return trip it was much better--no bugs, but the water was still ice cold, so we said no more February cruises! We were told that they had been having exceptionally cool weather for the area and that was the reason. Maybe it would not happen again, but we will not take the chance. TheWog Posted July 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2005 It may all be relative.... where are you from? We went to Castaway Cay (CC) in January 2004 and had weather in the high 70s with water temps probably about the same, maybe a bit cooler. We boarded the plane for our trip and the Capt. notified us that it was a balmy 12 degrees below 0 as we were taking off from Manchester, NH airport. Temps at Port Canaveral were in the low 60s (maybe high 50s) but we had our shorts and short sleeve shirts on... very warm for us in January. We swam at each port and on the ship and were in the water on CC. We had a great time. (as a side note we swam at the beach in Southern Maine over the July 4th weekend this year and water temps were mid 60s).
