Houston Fog

I've been reading several different posts about the troubles of ships being delayed in and out of Houston due to fog. Can someone who lives in the Houston area tell me if this year's fog has been more severe than normal or if this is typical for the area?

 

Also, are there months that are worse than others? I am likely sailing out of Houston at the end of November, will be flying in a day early and departing on a later (6 PM) flight, but want to have a better idea if what has happened this year is typical or unusual.

Fog is typical, though not frequent, in January and February.

It occurs when we have cool water (normal in winter), cold days, then an influx of warm weather for a few days.

No more frequent this year than any other, just happens to be a habit of newscasters to make out something worse than it is and dramatize more:rolleyes:

Thank you very much for the response. I was thinking it was a case of it being made out to be much worse than what it actually was. I am sure I am largely hearing the negative because people don't share the good experiences as often as they do the negative.

I actually think we haven't had as much fog this year as we normally do because the weather has been cold. Tampa is fogged in today as well...it doesn't just occur on the Texas Gulf Coast! And yes, you are right about people loving to share anything negative.

Great to know, thank you. I think I am going to go forward with my booking and build in some time for the possibilities of being delayed into our flight home. If we don't get delayed then we can go see the Space Center or find some other activities to pass the time.

I've been on 3 cruises out of Galveston, 2 in April and 1 in November. You really won't know about the fog until the day of. We had bad fog for 1 of our cruises in April. We drove down the day of and got there about noon. Carnival had sent us a text telling us about the fog that morning on the way. We ended up boarding the ship at 12:30 the next morning. It was miserable to be stuck in Galveston with no hotel room to hang out in. Carnival gave us a voucher to use for lunch and we ate dinner when we boarded the ship. They changed our route but we still got to go to all of our ports. Ended up being a great cruise. You just never know about the fog.
