NCL Breakaway or Celebrity Summit to Bermuda

Did the Summit last year. Trying the Breakaway this year.

I felt that there was less to do on the Summit than other ships I've been on. Service was fine. Food was good.

We originally booked the Summit for a trip this year because it was $300 less pp for the exact same itinerary. Then the BA's fares came down so that it was only $60 more pp and we decided to try the new ship.

Sailed on the Summit a few years ago and I'll be on Breakaway in 3 weeks. The Summit definitely has less different things to do... if "things" is what you're looking for. I lucked out and had an interesting group for dinner on the Summit. BA is of course Freestyle so you eat when and with whoever you want.

The food on Summit was a little better than any NCL ship I've been on but not enough to be a dealbreaker. It comes down to what you want out of your cruise, I guess.

Tagging along... Would prefer to go on the dawn but can't make the days work. So I'm trying to decide between these two myself. (And leaning heavily towards summit buts irrelevant to the thread since I have experience on neither)

I went on the "Breakaway" last October to Bermuda and it was such a fun ship, the ship is not dead after 11, there are plenty of dance parties at Spice H20, the back of the ship with the Hugh T.V. screen. This was my best cruise so far and it was my 5th! I am going on the "Gem" again in October for 11-days~~cannot wait!:)

I sailed the Breakaway last September 2013. I loved it. Of course I'd sailed the Epic 2x before that and like the big ships with lots to do. Plus the Breakaway was almost brand new, so that was nice too.

I ate at most of the specialty restaurants and the other dining rooms and all were very good. Particularly Moderno, my favorite. Buffet for breakfast was always good with plenty of options.

Since Bermuda is the only port, I spent a lot of free time in the spa. In fact, had a spa mini-suite, which included access to the thermal spas, which are great and very relaxing. The balcony on the Breakaway is smaller than on the Epic, but the bathroom was a much better layout.

There also seemed to be plenty of areas to sunbathe than just around the pool, which was always a little noisy. The other areas, upstairs were nice because they were quieter. There are about 5 or 6 watersides if you're into that. I only went on one. Plus there's a whole climbing wall and ropes course if you're into that. I didn't do either.

The crew was great. Didn't have any complaints about that.

If you have any other questions, I'm happy to try to answer.

Have cruised both. Now if you were comparing a Celebrity Solstice class ship (Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse, Silhouette, Reflection) to Breakaway, that would be a tough decision for me. But since you're comparing a new ship to an old Celebrity ship, Breakaway wins for me. :)

Loved them both for different reasons.

Summit....food and service. No children. Much more relaxed.

Breakaway.....fun, tons to do. Many more dining options for fee or no fee.

Which ever one you choose....they are both great ships. It just depends what you are looking for. If you want a laid back, relaxing cruise...go with Summit.

If you are looking for non-stop fun and things to do, go for the Breakaway.

Good luck...love BERMUDA:):):)

We took the Breakaway to Bermuda in October. We have been to Bermuda 3 times previous, and really just took this cruise to check out the new ship.

Once we ported in Bermuda in the am, within 2 or 3 hours, it felt like the whole ship was cleared out of passengers. It was an ideal time to check out the ship and do some activities with no lines and no people. We swam in the main pool for over and hour with no one else in there. No lines at the Buffett for lunch. No lines for the ropes course, mini golf or water slides. A great time to check out the ice bar. Also, I believe you can now gamble in the casino while ported in Bermuda. ( not sure if that has gone into effect yet).

We only left the ship briefly to play mini golf at the new mini golf course next to Snorkel Park (by the way, the best mini gold course I have ever played.). We also walked over to the pharmacy where we like to get souvenirs, located next to the rum cake factory.

We had a very relaxing time on the adult sun deck, didn't have to fight for umbrellas or loungers. It was so relaxing!

Have done both --- choose the Breakaway --- wonderful new ship with better service and entertainment. The food in the MDR is not as good but NCL's specialty restaurants are better. Enjoy Bermuda and be sure to go to St. Georges!
