ISLAND DIVA Posted February 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2014 How close to the sail date could we book a cabin. When does HA assign the guaranteed booking to those who have booked them? Circumstances this year we will only be able to know in about two weeks if we can get away.Looking at a March 23 sailing.

It depends on the Psgr. load & destination..You don't mention where you plan to cruise..If HAL has cabins in your desired class available, you should be able to book anytime before departure provided you have valid passports, necessary visa's & shots needed for the countries you are cruising to.... In 2008 we had been to Alaska on HAL & two weeks after returning I had emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix.. Our Friends were booked on Nov 21 to the Carib & convinced us that we needed another cruise for me to recouperate..;) LOL:D So on Oct. 29 we called & were placed on a waitlist with a deposit..Our cabin was confirmed on Nov. 14, a week before departure & we paid in full at that time.. You might not get the most desirable cabin though.. We waitlisted for an outside & had to take a cabin very far forward, but that was ok for us as we wanted to be with our Friends.. cheers..Betty Edited February 6, 2014 by serendipity1499
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2014 If I remember correctly, a few days ago you were asking about the VA aft cabins on the Eurodam. You can be certain that those cabins will be booked by the time you are able to book a cruise if you are still interested in that ship. If someone doesn't book it, HAL will either upgrade someone to that cabin or offer someone an upsell. Booking 2 weeks before the cruise means you will get whatever is left. Will you be happy with an ocean view or even an interior cabin if that is all that is left?

HAL usually closes bookings a couple of weeks prior to the sailing, however, if there is a notation to contact them for availability, there is a possibility that there will be some availability for that date. Fares are quoted at the price they were when HAL closed the sailing. It really doesn't matter when HAL assigns guarantees, I understand that they are moving passengers/cabins right up to sailing. We have booked any number of times within a couple of weeks of sailing. Very easy and painless. We have never felt that we were assigned an unacceptable cabin that no one else wanted.
