Carnival running new promo one time platinum status

Just thought I'd clarify what the freebie cruise offer was: It was through Hollywood Casinos / not Carnival directly -- coupon and coupon code and 800 number for booking given out last year (It was for people who I'm sure already paid for the cruise with gambling losses that would in all likelihood be fairly profitable passengers for Carnival because they like to spend time in Casinos which always are going to favor the house.) The specific offer was that you had to book a cruise that left before March 31st, 2014 (No cost except for taxes for a balcony cabin for two -- front or back, but not mid ship) for a 3 to 8 day cruise on any Carnival ship that sails the Caribbean, Alaska, or Mexican Riviera (other destinations not included). I don't know how these deals work, but I'm guessing that Hollywood Casinos is paying Carnival something for individuals who accept this perk, and it's probably a pretty low price because Carnival would see these passengers as most likely being profitable passengers for them. There are no requirements to do any gambling or anything like that.

Of course, there are plenty of other expenses for the person cruising (really the cruise fare is only a small part of vacation expenses: air, tips, excursions, hotel before cruise, miscellaneous expenses on board (Our miscellaneous on board costs are usually pretty low because we aren't drinkers.), so in all likelihood offer would only be used for individuals who already might have been considering a cruise vacation and had monies allocated for something like that, just my guess). Also just like any regular booking if you wanted an upgrade from the offer (e.g. I wanted mid ship balcony -- like the mid ship location that has a little less motion, and we wanted to bring DS who is in high school along and go over his spring break (wouldn't have done the cruise without him), so we paid for those upgrades which came out to a little less than $600). This offer it turns out also gives the person who was given the coupon a temporary platinum status, but I missed that and was puzzled by the email that Carnival sent.

It was a nice deal for us, as we were already thinking of doing a cruise out of San Juan for spring break on another line, but we really like Carnival (have cruised on Carnival ships twice before) and thought their San Juan itinerary looked really nice (three ports we had never been to), so for us at least the freebie incentive made it a no brainer to book with them. Carnival besides DS, ended up getting another four bookings out of this, as my parents are coming along (doing one of those big Aft balconies), and my brother and his girlfriend are coming too. My brother would have preferred to do another line, but he wanted to go with my parents and they told him they'd be going with us instead of him if he was doing a different ship and different date, as they enjoy DS so much (OK they like us too and my brother and his girlfriend -- but their darling grandson is who really wins them over), so lol (my brother who I get along terrifically with, but who wouldn't necessarily change vacations plans to travel with my family which I'm fine with), is coming too. He really wants to spend some time with mom and dad while they are still active, so much fun, and in great health. Unfortunately my brother's kids who are college age don't have the same spring break as DS. // We'll all be getting together this summer, though, for a land vacation so that will be a great chance for DS to see his cousins.

Sorry for such a long post, but saw active threads and speculation, so wanted to share what the offer was and probably just like to ramble about our planned vacation, because I'm looking forward to seeing family and the trip.
