Glad to have been of assistance ! Enjoy your trip

I believe that 2,566.22 is the full amount, including the taxes. you can easily check the existing rates for your cabin class for your cruise. I bet you it would be $1150 pp

Also ( i'm not a lawyer, just play one on this board ), as long as you pay an insurance premium for a certain amount of coverage, and you're NOT PROFITING from a claim, which you would not be as the coverage amount would go to pay the cancellation fee, you would not be committing any fraud, and you claim would be valid.

ok, I'm back with my results. Turns out it varies between insurers whether a policy will work in this 'free' situation. The insurer I had selected only will reimburse for prepaid expenses, not cancellation penalties which is what this prevailing rate charge is classified.

the broker found one other company who offers a couple of different levels of coverage that will work with my specific needs. I have to cancel the original and start over.

I'm not going to get specific as to what company, suggest anybody concerned called whatever broker they use and mention that they require a policy that isn't limited to prepaid expenses.

it was also suggested I try again to request a written prevailing rate quote from CCL to have jik something happens during my cruise, good luck to me.

If you paid with a Visa or a MasterCard, check the benefits it offers. Many offer automatic TI protection on any "common carrier" ( plane, train, etc )tickets. And if it doesn't -- maybe it's time to shop for a new credit card :D

I'm partial to Chase Freedom, but there are MANY choices. As usual with standard policies, they do not cover pre-exisitng conditions, so the point may be moot for you.

Isn't it somewhat sad that we're spending so much time discussing insurance nitty-gritty and pre-existing conditions when we should be rejoycing in our upcoming vacations ? :( Necessary evil, i know ...

never worked so hard for something free;)

ps Chase has a pound or two of my flesh already. I just bit on yet another SWA branded card to rack up the bucket of bonus miles last week.:D

oh my gosh, what a rigaramole! Thanks for the update, now I too will have to call my broker Monday and make sure I have a company that covers cancellation penalties, just when I finally found one!

As for in writing, at this point I did print out the "fun select" quote in a mock booking. I'll call my PVP next week and ask for something in writing. She owes me for not explaining every detail of this offer.

Now I'm REALLLLY going to enjoy that darn free spa cabin!!!! :p

My husband I both received promotional letters last week with our separate VIFP numbers and booked the same night they arrived as he had received a letter in November for the same offer but when we called then, everything was already booked.

From the bits and pieces of info we have been able to glean from Carnival employees, the letters are sent at random to past cruisers regardless of when your last cruise was taken. You do not have to be a gambler to receive the letter or have stayed in certain cabin levels. The most interesting fact was that the last person we spoke with said that you would only be able to ACCEPT the offer once based on your VIFP number. I am not sure how accurate that is, because once they get you on the boat they are making money hand over fist, but this was how it was explained to us.

I'm noticing that there are a lot of husband and wives that have BOTH received the offer, therefore I'm wondering if it is somehow chosen by the VIFP number itself. For those wives/husbands who did not revive the offer, yet your spouse did, did you sail on carnival the first time without your spouse? (Ie. more likely to have a VIFP number which is not similar to your spouse's?) Maybe we should start comparing the first or last digits on VIFP #'s ? (But don't post your complete number, for heaven's sake!)

And I'm also wondering about whether any Canadians have received the offer? I'm pretty sure my sister in BC has received it. She got a phone call while she was away on an NCL cruise amd I told her I thought it was just spam (ooops!) so I'm going to check with her tomorrow and will update.

I've checked all of ours and no dice.

Congrats to those who have won! Carnival should really consider trying to win me back!!! ;) Lol!!

Liz

i called the broker and again explained my situation, that I needed an insurance company to cover cancellation penalties, not my cost.

They sent me quotes from Travel Insured. Anyone ever deal with them?

I've bought policies from them before, no claims though. And, of course, you don't know how good an insurance company is until you file a claim. If you go to insuremytrip.com, there's a ton of reviews on this and other companies.

that's the one that worked for our situation.:) Not sure if we've used them in the past or not, frankly usually go with whatever agency has the best combo of lowest rates/coverage for our specific needs.

I've filed medical claims over the years with two different companies, both would be minor issues at home that went south quickly onboard for me (i.e. infection from bug bite). When you're dealing with cost of treatment on a ship, just seeing the dr/medication, etc. easily can break $1,000. jmho but as long as you complete the appropriate paper work and are willing to follow the procedures they request, you will be reimbursed for covered expenses.

Thanks, I'm going to go ahead with the Plan, one thing I did notice is that I'm covered and can cancel with refund in case DD has a school year extension or I have a job loss, among other issues like sickness, pre-existing conditions, and accidents enroute to departure. DD originally was supposed to have a last day of school on June 10th, but with 4 snows days they are now going to school until June 16th. Our cruise leaves on June 17th. While I don't have a problem taking her out the last day of school, I don't have to worry in case it becomes and issue or they have more snow days to make up.

Thanks everyone, enjoy your free cruises! :D

Come on, don't tell me you'd let a little thing like last day ( or two ) of school get in a way of a nearly free cruise ?? :D

Gee..too bad RCCL doesn't make offers like this...we sailed with them many times plus spent lots in the casino. We are trying Princess for the first time and are very excited about it.

Based on the progression of RCI's pricing (read, UP), they don't need to make offers like this. All lines, RCI included, will still offer some excellent last minute deals on unsold inventory though if you're in a position to take advantage.
