Transfer from Civitavecchia port into Rome?

That price seems a bit high. As an example, Romecabs (Romecabs.com) charges 130 Euros (about $180) for a private car transfer between the port and Rome hotels. Romecabs is highly recommended here on CC by many of us who have used their service. There are also other very good transfer services that charge prices in that same range. If you can find another couple (try posting your Roll Call) to share a transfer your cost will be dramatically lower.

These transfers are certainly the most comfortable and easiest way to get from ship to your hotel. But, if cost is a big issue the train is another option (but you have to handle your own luggage at every step of the process). You would use the free port shuttle from your ship to the main port entrance, walk about 4-5 blocks to the train station, take the train into Rome, get off at the station closest to your hotel, and then probably grab a taxi from the train station to your hotel.

A last option is to simply grab a taxi at the port, but you would want to negotiate the fare before you get in any taxi. If you are lucky you might save a few Euros using a taxi rather then a pre booked transfer.

Can anyone offer opinions on what is the best way to get from the cruise port to our hotel in central Rome? Would also appreciate cost estimates...our travel agent is quoting $267 USD, which seems high to us. Thank you!

That's crazy we used ROMECABS in November for 130 Euro right to our apartment in central Rome. This is a top notch operation. they did all three transfer while in Italy for us and you can prepay it all way before you go another great asset.

We did the train option last October. Very inexpensive, but as Hank said you do need to manage your luggage. There are stairs at the station at both ends. We went on a Saturday so trains were not crowded, you might want to consider that depending on what day it will be. Couldn't beat the cost though.
